Has anyone had luck running regular fuel or do you have to run super? Will the pinging from running regular do motor damage?

What pinging? If you get pinging from 87 octane, your car has issues.

You're supposed to run 87 octane or higher in your Element.

IMO, running anything higher than 87 is just wasting money.
Running regular will cause no damage as far as I know and have read here. I have just used regular since 2 years.

what kind of car do you have? maybe we could help you a little more if you filled out your profile so we knew.

Doesn't matter. An Element is an Element. If he has pinging when he's running 87 octane he's got other issues.
Unless someone has changed the motor or hyped up the motor, the manual states implicitly only use 87 octane. I wonder if there is top end noise per normal.

all these assumptions are thinking that he has an element but he could have an 07 GTI 2.0t or a ford lightning that needs premium fuel... but we dont know cause his profile isnt filled out!!!!!!

By my math the guy came to the Element Owners Club and asked the question.....I think it is safe on his part tp assume that we knew he had an Element...............

i'm not gonna be responsible for his engine when he decides it's ok to put 87 in it when he needs 93...;-)
this is all a moot point, and one that has been discussed to death here...(search, and all will be revealed....)

Lets make it really simple:
If you own/drive a Honda Element, then Honda recommends regular fuel ONLY.

if you want to waste the $$ because you are convinced that your Element runs better on a higher octane fuel, then it's your $$$ to do with as you please.

If you are having a knock or ping issue, then take it to a mechanic and have it looked at, because regular fuel will NOT cause this issue with your Element.

And no, I'm not interested in opening this up for debate, again....

please don't yell, it doesn't make you any more credible

no one said running a higher grade fuel will harm your E. If you truly believe that it runs better, then it's your $$ to waste.

But, just to clear this up (again) the Honda engineers have specifically designed and calibrated the engine to run optimally with regular grade fuel. There are engines designed to run on higher octanes, and engines designed to run on regular. The techs can debate the pro's and con's of each until the cows come home, and then they will still be going at it.

What I can say is that my E, with about 250,000 km has run just fine on regular fuel, on long highway runs, pulling our trailer, sitting in traffic on long hot summer days, and stuck in Canadian snowstorms. Up mountain passes, and through prairies. The only environment we haven't gone through (yet) with the E are the southern deserts. I have never put anything other than regular fuel in it, and it's still running just as well now, as it did 6 years ago....

Other than your spelling and grammar being horrible, you're also living in a fantasy world. (I hope your post was a joke, if not, I almost feel sorry for you) You're not getting better mileage, you don't have more power. This has been proven over and over and over again.

Wouldn't it be funny if all this arguing was for nothing. Try a different gas station----it could be that your buying crappy gas--in any grade.

Still have not seen anything from the OP.

It is possible that you could get better mileage from higher octane, the articles I read all seem to assume that you are using pure gasoline. In these parts all the 87 is watered down(for lack of a better term) with ethanol and other chemicals(during the summer months) to equal a boutique blend. Some of the stations in our outlying areas don't do that with the higher grades, so people with outboard motors can still use it. I know that I get 10 % better mileage when I run the higher octane(89), the only problem is that it still pretty much costs the same in the end. It does run slightly better too, again not because of the octane boost, but its the lack of ethanol.

like I said X sperts^^^^^that know everything in their fantasy world about every body& every thing. what a joke to live life in a box pering out with such pre misconceptions about everything and thinking they are the all knowing box of rocks.it must realy suck when reality sets in.but how would they know???they dont have special powers, this has been proven over and over again and again. another honda god in the works(if they ever make it out of the box of rocks, I would guess it realy sucks there) I would make a sugestion to open your eyes&ears&brain to the real world but doubt it would make it through the fog in the box. probly has a steam engine that is powered by ice. my brother has a steam powered power boat it needs water and high heat.(but only to run)it does just fine on land also!!!no water no high heat.go figure
