I came out of my townhouse to get some stuff I had in the E and discovered a neighbor giving it the thorough look over.

He drives a Mercury Mountaineer (about 85k miles/year, as he's in Real Estate( and his wife drives a CRV. Actually, he's driving the CRV, since he has 20,000 miles to burn before the lease runs out in September.

Anyway, he had not looked seriously at the car because he thought it was "just a car for kids", but is now planning to visit the dealer.

He also thought his customers would get a kick out of it. (I can see it now. "My car's in the shop; I had to borrow my son's)

A woman from a few doors down actually came into my garage and asked if she could see my E while I was installing my steering wheel cover. I pulled out of the garage while she went to get her boyfriend and gave the grand tour.

More surprising was that my 82 year old Dad (who's a happy Buick buyer) apparently checked one out at a dealer. He said it was a lot nicer than he'd heard and that he likes it. I don't think he'll be getting one, but it was cool that he actually stopped to look.

The first day I got my ELEMENT i got My first "OH my god! I love your car!!!" I was driving about 45 down the street while some lady was yelling at me out her window. A little dangerous but it made me feel great. I work at a bar/restaurant and must give a tour of my car almost daily as the customers ask what kind of car they keep seeing in the parking lot. I love being a head turner but when I'm not wearing make up or I just woke up, I miss the annominity of my former Ford Taurus. Oh well, the price of owning such a unique car I supose. Happy trails to you and your four wheeled friend !!! :D

I am a retail manager and my E is also parked to the side of our building....well last week one of the associates was outside having a cigarette and when she came back from her break she ran right up to me and said <in my best midwestern valley girl accent "OMG....I was just outside...and OMG this guy walked right up to your car and was like peeeking in and I was about to go tell him to get away from it because like I knew it wasn't his car"

Too Funny!

A few weeks back I was stopped at a light and a woman motioned to me to roll down my window....thinking that she needed directions I did....then she just started gushing about the E and how she was going to buy one the next day....I am happy to report that I have seen her around in a SSM E fully loaded....and she looks incredibly happy!

Thats funny Penguin that your friend was protecting your car. I had a bunch of regulars at my retaurant apologizing to me for all the cupped hand and nose prints they left on my windows from peeking in. Then of course I had to give the full tour. It makes me feel great to have such a unique car.

:D

Had another such experience. I live in horse country in New Jersey. So I come out of the supermarket, and here's this stunning thirty something blonde in formal riding pants & knee boots eyeing my SSM.

As she gets into her (top down) likewise silver, Jaguar, she says "Really cool!"

As I am more than twice her age, and, to be charitable, portly, I doubt that it was anything but a compliment.

Gee, I'd LOVE to be in Honda's target age group --- again!

My Dad, who is a 67 year old Buick fiend, drove my E while we were in Florida earlier this month. He came back, walked down to where we were on the beach, handed me the keys with one of those "Element" looks on his face, and said "B*tch'n Car." You'd have to know my normally quiet, reserved, and very Catholic Dad, as well as have experienced one of those "Element" looks, to get the full effect of that which I'm writing. Oh, he won't go out and buy one, but he won't deny how much fun he had driving my EBP either.
On an alternate note, I saw two other Es while we were in Florida, both NBP. That was two weeks ago today, and I've owned mine for one week more. To date, those are the only Es I've seen other than mine. Sometimes I wonder if there are any other Es even remotely close to me.

Let me set the stage by saying I'm a silver-haired 53-year-old grandfather. I've gotten lots of "thumbs up" signs and big smiles from various motorists and given several impromptu tours to gawkers in parking lots, at the pool and such. Element fans have ranged from 18 to 68 so far in my experience.

But the other evening I was driving across town and had 3 20ish African-American guys pass me- all hanging out of their car smiling and giving me the "thumbs up" sign. The thought occured to me that in our culture today VERY FEW things could make 3 20-year-old African-American guys grin, wave and give the "thumbs up" sign to a 53-year-old white grandfather!

The Element crosses cultural boundaries in a refreshing way. Thank you Honda.

We were at an outdoor concert last night and when we returned to the car -- there were 3-4 people admiring our E. My wife said "kinda ugly?" and they said "No! -- we like it!!".

We had a kid working the Burger King drive thru staring at us the other week. He finally asked "is that a new model?" ... and my wife said "yeah, pretty cool, eh?" and he just grimiced and didn't say anything ... it was funny. He obviously had that "tasted my first beer" look on his face -- haha.

The reactions are so mixed, its really kind of fun.

Some are just like "ewww" and some others are like "eww -- I think I like it" and others are just "cool dude!". It grows on you, what can I say?!

I agree that is does seem to bridge age, gender and racial barriers!!
