Has anyone installed the OEM Honda security system?

So I bought the OEM security from a member here and i have a question as to the install:
The kit comes with a "microphone". The instructions tells you to remove the panel under your shifter and drill a hole in it to install the microphone.
I was wondering what the microphone does and why does it need to be installed in that specific location? I was wondering if it would be okay to install on the top of the steering wheel column cover, because i will already be drilling into that for the LED.
Any guidence is appretiated.

The microphone is to detect the sound of glass breaking - mine is installed in the location you mentioned, by the shifter.

I guess this is the best location to pick up on any of the glass being broken. Maybe if it were on the steering column it wouldn't be able to detect the passenger side easily?
That's what I figured. That it's there in the middle for a reason. I installed it on the shifter because that's what the Honda directions told me to do. I usually take directions like that with a grain of salt, and just do it my way, which I usually have alot of luck with. But this is Honda we're talkin' about. SO i decided to listen to them.
SO i locked myself in the car to test the alarm. I clapped really loud to try to get it to go off, but it didn't work. So i put a couple drill bits in a small metal bucket and shook it. The sharp sound set the alarm off. Wow, it's loud!

That's strange, when I tested mine by clapping my hands, the alarm went off. Did you wait till the alarm set itself?
perhaps not
