I finally got my Element DX, but now I need to get a radio in there! How do I remove the font cover for the space where the head unit is to be installed? Do any other surprises await me in there? If a previous thread has already covered this, please direct me.

Thanks!

Mac:

We are of the barren desert, the empty E of low MSRP fame! DXs don't necessarily come with ANYTHING (mine barely had air) and NO RADIO! Just how I wanted it.

Then I can add what I want, when I want.

Q: Do you have an EX since your E is SOP, since they don't make DXs in that color? Now I'm confused. (grin)

Thanks for all the replies. I couldn't figure out how to pry the bezel off, and I didn't want to take a screwdriver to my new dash blindly. I'm re-installing the AM/FM/Casette which I installed in my last car, so feel comfortable with the wiring part. I'll try to snap a few digital pics of the process. Wish me luck!

The only extras my DX came with were A/C (for the Houston heat) and wheel covers. Even so, I am extremely happy with it. :D

I just installed a head unit last week in my DX. It is relatively painless. I read on another string that you can pry the black cove off, don't try it!!! (I did and marked my trim, although it is barely noticable)

I have a 5-spd, so you will have to figure this out if you have an automatic.

First, I unscrewed my shifter and took it off. Then I pulled the boot and cover off. (it sounded scary, but it just released) Then I pulled the entire dash consol off, (same thing, souded scary, but it just released) Then behind the dash are clips holding the black cover on, just press those clips and the cover literally falls off.

Then you can screw in the housing, plug the stereo in and your ready to just push the dash consol back on... Simple.

I've never installed a car stereo before. This was so easy, I can't believe that Best Buy was going to charge me $90 for this.
