I have been planning to buy this car for several months, but I always thought I would buy it in the fall. I planned to take my time finding the right dealer, the exact right car, etc. because I thought I would have the luxury of time. Now, guess what...my old car has come down with a terminal disease deep down in the engine that would cost a minimum of $600 to fix, probably more. It's certainly not worth paying to keep that car running for only a couple months till I get my E. The problem is that I have my heart set on a 5spd AWD EX, and from everything I read on here, those are just beginning to show up on lots, and only for people that preordered them. So does anyone have any advice as to what is the best strategy here? Should I email every dealer within 200 miles and tell them I am ready to buy right away if they have what I want? Should I order the E I want, drive my car till it dies, then rent a car till my E comes in? I am not even considering an automatic; I would sooner buy a different car. I wanted orange, but I would (looks like I probably WILL) compromise on color. In fact, I would take any color as long as it was the model I want. I don't even care what I have to pay (within reason). Aaargh, this is major stress (though I have to admit that part of me is thinking, Yippee! I can get my E before fall!). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if you car can make it a few more months...it would be worth it to wait and get exactly what you want. are there ways you can drive your car less?

personally, i'd wait and get what i wanted. but, if it means spending 1,000 fixing a car and getting an element, i'd go for the element!!!!

good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Help is on the way. If you will PM me with the specifics on your ideal vehicle first, along with the nearby states that are within driving distance and would be feasable for you, I will provide you with a shopping list of which dealers have your dream car in stock as well as the ones that will have one soon. This list will have the dealerships, their phone numbers and exactly what they have in stock and on-order. Should save you some time and give you a clear picture to help you in pricing and time.

If that isn't achievable then we can work on the secondary color, but with a little luck we might be able to find your E right away. Your local dealer can also do this type of search, but some are reluctant to. Let me know if I can help.

My dealer did a search yesterday and found 6 5sp EX Awd w/ side airbags within reasonable driving distance.

The key is to find a dealer like Supamann said who is willing to search. The manager told me yesterday that most larger dealerships will try to sell their inventory only rather than locate.

Good luck!
