Hello...

I have used the search function, and learned a lot...like how to get through the firewall, and many other things.

My question is this. I need to ground 1 wire from the on/off switch, and 1 wire from each light. Would it work ok for me to ground them under the hood, where the negative battery terminal cable grounds (there is a nut with a green dot on it to the right of the battery on the frame, where a wire runs from the it to the negative cable)?

Yes.

You could also just ground each item separately. Any metal that is connected to the chassis will be ground. I would find a bolt in each location that could be used. I'm under the impression that ground wires should be as short as possible.

2ed ^^

Keep them as short as you can. There is no such thing as too much ground. So ground each one separately if you wish.
