Oh no that sucks man. I'm hoping I don't have a problem with that and if you end up taking them apart, you don't either.
I just did mine last weekend and have been loving them.
The lights ARE wonderful when they work, and for the price. The install is incredibly simple, and most of those instructions in the linked PDF you found are unnecessary for the E. If anybody is considering this install, don't let the PDF instructions scare you, just talk to someone here who has done it.
The only issue I have is one of the ballast doesn't seem to keep my driver's light on as it starts to flicker after warm-up (seems you've been starting to have that issue too). Fortunately (for the time being), I've been able to get around that by turning the lights off, then back up momentary.
Regarding YOUR issue. That sounds EXACTLY like one of my install problems. Check your grounds, then power connections. Give them a little tug. One of my ground rings pulled right out with no effort. I securely reattached it, and everything worked fine since.
For your problem though, if it is mechanical, did you do anything about the projector's moving in the H4 socket?
I noticed when installing mine (I got the G3 kit from that site you linked), I noticed the projector is held in the socket pretty flimsy and decided to do something about it.
Please refer to my attached picture for what I mean:
1. Shows that the projector is only held by bulb bracket (referred w/ red arrow)
2. Shows what happens to the bulb socket when the car experiences movement (referred w/ yellow arrow)
3. Noticed the enclosed area in red
4. To remedy the movement, I added screws to fix the bulb socket down so the projector would not move from harsh gyrations
Which site did you buy from?
When I installed the G3 set I also noticed it seemed a bit loose, and over bumps I SWORE I could see the light projection bounce. Funny thing, a week later, I stopped noticing it, and didn't even remember until you mentioned it, but I can't see it any more. I'm a little confused by your extra screws because my G3 set doesn't look like your G3 set. So I can't tell what you did See my pic below (ignore adaptor in pic). I think I had a plastic collar with better fitting tabs, and you seem to have a metal one? Do your extra screws go into anything after going through the metal, or are they just in place to stop slight rotation?
I suspect my cutoff blue->yellow issue, is due to the shroud possibly mechanically malfunctioning. However, I still think it would be more effective to have a whole new set handy to install. That will allow me all the testing time I need later, and I won't have to open the headlights twice. Plus, it's an excuse to upgrade.
I'm thinking you problem could be one of two things:
1. Bulb issues (unlikely since you got new ones)
2. Mechanical like you mentioned due to excess movement
As for my on/off light, flicking it on/off, or hi/lo does nothing to remedy the issue, so I think it's another cause. I'm going to try a new bulb first. Then I will pull the bumper and check my connections, like I just recommended you do. If I still have the issue, I'll switch the ballasts.
Ps. Going through the
links installation manuals could be helpful. Page 22ish shows the guy moding his cut off line (which could alter the light beam thus adding the bluish hue)
Thanks for the install link. I had NO IDEA that ONE line on the page was clickable. I thought it was just titling an empty instruction section. -haha
I read the install regarding the shroud mod, and it reads more like it's for the pattern. I've actually been eyeing a G5 kit, which has the same shroud design as that mod.
