Hit & Run...

...the rear fender of my car was clipped a delivery truck which bailed the scene before I could get any info. I did get a not so good foto of it on my iPhone and a foto of the scene but no witnesses. Any hints on how to write the insurance claim???

Details: Hard Tail delivery truck parallel parked nose in at an angle blocking some of my lane. I drove around but then stopped to let a pedestrian cross. Then when I continued the truck backed into me catching the pass side mirror and rear fender/bumper. At first I thought a dolly or something had fallen off the truck and hit me as nothing was supposed to be there.

Thanks, Espina

File a police report with all the info you have. You might want to advertise in the newspaper or some public place (convenience store etc) near the scene to see if you can locate any witnesses.

This happened to me in a Safeway parking lot in northern BC about 10 years ago. I had less info than you did as it happened while I was in the store. No witnesses. Just give your insurance co all the info you can and keep pestering them. I had an Ontario registered car at the time so I had to deal with the insurer long distance but the they did accept the claim.

Good luck!
Was it a normal delivery truck? Like a UPS truck or anything like that that had specific colors? or even white. It's not uncommon for them to hit people and try to get away, because they get fired for it, unless it wasn't their fault.

Also, if it was some sort of box-lorry or something like that, not a lot of people own them, and it was probably rented, look for a truck rental company nearby, and look around their stock for a truck with damage where it hit you or ask them if anyone rented the specific truck you saw, and you can get their name.

If you can't find the truck driver, you'll have to say a hit and run, but you don't have any info otherwise. If you have a picture of the truck on your phone, though it's low res, you may be able to get the plate number off it, if you took a picture of the back of it, upload it here, and I have some software that may be able to get the plate number even if it's a bad picture, and you can go from there.
Here's the truck:

There's no rear plate on that truck, and no truck number marking, only thing is a warning label on the back door that is next to the lift handle. I found something that could have been a plate, but it's not white, and seems more like it should be a turn signal spot. Whoever it was didn't close the rear door properly either, the door was not latched. So it hit you on it's right side? That's bad cause the bicyclist is blocking that side of the truck.

But I did go one step further and looked up "LAZ Express" it is a truck company in LA, their phone number is
(213) 833-7820. You're in luck because it is the only location, and they only have 5 to 9 employees at a time. Just find which truck went to Solvang that day, and you should have your culprit, if not the company as a whole is at fault either way. Also the address for the company is 2020 BAY STREET. I hope that's enough of a start to get your situation fixed.
Thanks for the assistance!!!

It happened in DT LA (Solvang has yet to have any skyscrapers that I know of...) and it was my right passenger side that got hit. I tried to catch up with him at the stop sign but he scooted. My car is parked across from where I am taking the foto.

Just for forum legalities, the company on the truck still is entitled to due process so please don't pester them. I may let the insurance company handle most of this one as I have full coverage. It just I'm unsure how to make the claim so that I give them no wiggle room on fault.

well, if it hit you on the passenger side, see if any of their trucks have damage on the rear bumper and traces of the paint off your car, then that's an easy way to show you aren't lying, and I assume you haven't ever done business with them, so there's no reason they believe it's some kind of "vengeance claim" so I'd just check with your insurance company, and ask them what to do, and make sure you file a police report about it, technically you have 4 years to report a crime, but you still need to do it ASAP so it can be taken care of. The police will also give you a report number for the insurance company. Talking to your IC now, they may just tell you to get a police report first, or write you off and say how you are making it up because you should have called the police. So get that report, get the location, etc. If it was in LA, then wherever you were parked was where the truck was going I'm sure if it pulled into your car, so that's another way to narrow it down. Due process is thrown out the window if you saw them back into you and they escaped. That's admittance of guilt on their part.

Have you try calling the company and ask for the list of vehicles in that area/date/time?
