So the expensive crappy step I had rotted out. So I dug through the scrap stainless steel bin at work and this is what I came up with. Need to add the anti skid tape to it, and I want to cap the ends. Gotta find material for that.

Looks nice, wish I were that handle with a torch.

What's the ID of the tubing? If you don't have your heart set on closed caps, maybe a couple of rolled exhaust tips would work. Until you finish it, you could use temporary plastic end caps.

Here's a source of tubing caps : http://www.wagnercompanies.com/end_caps.aspx

Scariest current claim: "We've protected you from rabid elephant attacks (substitute your own creature). Because of improved security, there hasn't been a successful elephant attack in the in the past 8 years."

another idea

maybe use bedliner or underbody spray on OPEN ends of tubing? Tape off everything else so it's only Interior. Could also tape off 'foot rub surface' and apply same to that area? don't know how these would hold on you metals. Nice Work!

The link I provided has weld-in flush stainless endcaps.
