I don’t own an Element yet because I’ve been looking for one with a manual transmission. Additionally, I’m trying to determine what would be a reasonable amount of miles. I’ve always purchased vehicles at the 100k mark, expecting them to last hopefully another 100k, but now things are different. I’ve seen people selling their Elements with 200k-300k miles. What odometer reading should I aim for?

The K24 engine will last a mighty long time if it's maintained with regular oil changes, valve adjustments and no overheating. By the very nature of the E's age, most will be in the 175k range on up, so you want to look for how well it has been kept up and if so, 200k is really not a worry. But IMHO, rust is the key to an E's value, you can fix anything mechanical for a price, but usually can't fix terminal rust.

My first I got at 196000 and put on 40k problem free. I would still have it if it weren’t for the rear ending.

my second I got with 219000. And it still is runninng good.

both I got with regular maintenance. I would wait and watch. After I got my second one, a green one popped up a couple days later for the same price but with 169000.

Thanks for the advice. I just need to continue to be patient, look for any signs of rust and verify that regular preventative maintenance has been performed.
THIS.....by all means find one that has been cared for, and you'll have less to worry about.

Aloha!

I know someone here in Honolulu, who is the original owner of a 2005 Blue Metallic with grey panels, moon roof seldom opened, (less the 5 times over all those years) Element, 5 speed, less than 35,000 miles, impeccably cared for, excellent product ~ Stealth Cat Shield installed for catalytic converter protection, car port covered, new tires, everything maintained on regular basis, mostly all of 18 years of receipts ... he's been thinking about the future as he's in his 70's now ~ and still he and the Element ~ are fully functional, just thinking about the future. What price should he consider selling at? They're no longer produced so maybe getting more and more valuable?

The Element is his best friend.... so challenging to part with... a dream vehicle for sure....

Best way to befriend any road is to have manual control for keeping one alert!

I was just at the Tucson, AZ shop where I purchased two different Es over the years. (My DH and I both love driving them, and we had to have two so we'd stop fighting over who got to drive ours.) They currently have two E's coming up for sale. I don't know about the mileage on one (he might have told me 180K but don't quote me on that), but one of them was in the 60K range. Might be a sweet deal for someone with the cash to spend. It won't be cheap, but this company has been excellent to deal with since 2015. I'm not sure I'm allowed to post their info, but if someone will let me know that it's okay, I'll put contact info here.

That sounds a real Unicorn, and might be worth a look at putting on "Bring A Trailer".
