I just realized today as I thought I was revving the %&*$ out of my engine while going up a mountain pass that I have never gone over 5,000 rpm's with this engine. The question is should I drive it harder so it rev's even higher before it shifts? Doesn't the vtec or some thing happen at even higher rev's?

I don't know the exact crossover point for vtec on a K24 (for my D16 civic it kicked in around 6800 rpm). However I would not punch the engine to make it shift differently. Unless your using an MT I would think even if the engine has variable shifting points that the good folks at honda are not going to ensure that you can hang around that high of rpms without putting excessive wear on the engine (again, just my opinion, I'm sure there are smarter people on this subject)
