Hi all,

I've been using a spare iPaq as an MP3 player and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for mounts (dashboard or otherwise, commerical or homemade) that'd give me easy access (someone near the radio?).

I've hidden the cables and have been keeping the unit on the console between the seats but it's not very convenient.

Thanks.

i used a strip of velcro... this is where I originally had my iPaq.. I've since moved it onto the shifter area... right under the Hazards light switch.

Velcro huh? Didn't think that'd hold the iPaq with the expansion sleeve. I'll have to try that. Now to concentrate on the road....

Thanx.

I just received and installed the Pro-Fit Utimount.

http://www.pro-fit-intl.com/UltiMount/

Very inexpensive $19.95 + $3.95 shipping from http://www.discountcell.com

I installed it just to the left of the glove compartment and most devices should be flush against the top of the shift console. It's very flexible because the mounting unit sits on top of a rotating ball mechanism that can lock into place. That way, either the driver or your passenger can use it easily. By putting it here, it also minimizes the distance that any wiring has to go from the aux/power plugs.

Unfortunately, I can't stick anything on it yet because it takes 72 hours for the adhesive to cure. I plan on putting my ipod there or my PocketPC...looking for a GPS solution right now...

Here are some pics (before anything attached). The faceplate can be removed to reveal an AMPs compatible hole pattern.

Due to my positioning, it has limited left movement but adequate. However, it can really move to the right, but move it too far and it will block the glove compartment from opening. I don't forsee it to be a problem though.

I also just installed the UltiMount for my Nomad JukeBox. I attached mine just above the sub-woofer, just below the shifter.

It works great for me.

Here are a few pictures with the iPod actually mounted on the Ultimount.

I have a case for my iPod with a small mounting clip on the back which I use to mount onto the Ultimount. Optionally, you could purchase one of those cell-phone holders, remove the clipmount and screw the holder in.

Tilted so that the passenger can have easy access. I thought about putting it on the center console above the subwoofer but I like the little higher positioning and easier passenger access. However, I did notice that taller people (6' and up) could easily bump the iPod with their knee.

Close-up side view. You can see the little locking lever just behind the "ball" joint.

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. I had my UltiMount installed for about a week, and everything seemed to be fine, but then guess what was lying on the floor of my E when I got in to go to work this morning?

When I installed it, I gave the dash the double wipe cleaning as per the instructions, then let the adhesive cure for about 48 hours. I guess that slight bit of texture on the dash was enough to cause it to slip off.

Then of course, the Nomad JukeBox I mounted isn't exactly as light as a PDA or those iPods.

So now I'm considering putting a couple of small thin screws through the disk of the UltiMount to really hold it in place. Anyone know whats right behind the plastic above the sub and below the shifter?

I'm a bit hesitant since it would then be a permanent mod, but I really liked having the jukebox right there.

I had a cell phone mount taped to the subwoofer and it eventually fell off in hot weather. I gave up on it. I want to mount an Ipod which is big. I now have a really rare item I got in gray market tuner store. Its called a Uniflex phone holder CP907A by G.M.I made in Taiwan. It's a mount with a suction cup at the end of a long arm. This cup attaches to the windshield. The arm rests on the dashboard. Due to simple lever action the weight of the phone actually presses the suction cup into the windshield. It will never fall off like a lot of other suction cup products. It looks like it will go extinct since it looks like it was meant for bigger, older cell phones but its perfect for PDAs and Ipods. Good luck finding it.

There are now tons of vent type holders around but I want my vents to be vents and look like vents and they were not meant/designed for holding stuff up.

No one wants to drill holes for mounts but thats the strongest way. You want max resale value and you never know when you need to unload your vehicle. I thought if I had to drill holes I would drill where you cannot easily see them. I would drill under the upper dash lip. Like just under the instrument panel or below the passenger air bag(I think). Then put a angle bracket there. I plan to put a door chime kill switch just under the tach area with a bracket.

The longer I have my car the braver I get. 8)

Well, I went ahead and screwed the UltiMount to that space just below the shifter. I put three small screws in the stickie disc portion.

The way the UltiMount works, you can always remove the arm, so that only the sticky disc remains, and the color matches the dash itself, so it almost looks like it belongs there.

And most importantly, it holds my JukeBox no problem now.
