sorry to clog up the forums, but quick question:

could this be an aftermarket side mirror?

I had to replace it to pass inspection and removing the glass in the standard way didn't work at all and I broke the mirror. Once I looked behind the panel/mirror holder thing, I noticed there weren't any clips or hooks. My replacement glass from random guy on amazon fit but needed adhesive strips. Just curious...

All you need is an adhesive to reattach the new mirror. I'm surprised the old one came off so clean.... Others may chime in with an exact type, but your local auto parts store should carry a suitable adhesive that will work for attaching the mirror to the plastic backing. You won't need to much, a small dab on each of the four sides should do it, tape in place while curing. Good luck!!  :)

The mirror glass should stay on the flat piece that is still in the housing. That flat piece is what gets removed with the glass. It has two push connections on the back of it at the bottom and two hook-type attachments on the top.

Service manual is your friend.
