Very proud, although the guy didn't have a clue what he was going on about. I read on here how the backs are 20%, and followed a link someone posted to find out that NY requires no lower than 30%, so that is what I wanted. He was going on about how that meant light coming in, not light blocked, or SOMEthing, and I got horrifically confused. So apparently what I have now is 35%, which is just a hair into illegal territory (don't ask me how that works). It's lighter than what I wanted, but what can you do?

But Oni's looking sharp now, eh? :D Here's a before and after:

You'll like 35%. I just did mine with 20% (which is the legal limit for my area) and its almost too dark at night. Especially when you make a turn and your headlights aren't shining to the sides. Its pretty dark. I love the look but it does make it a little more difficult to see at night.

Oh geez I didn't mean to do that. Hey a stock E has a lot less to worry about. See those white marks on the edges of my front rim? Yeah I just had new tires put on and the [email protected]$$ used a tire iron and it scraped paint off all 4 wheels. Now I gotta get them repainted but luckily the place is gonna pay for it.

Hehe, it's okay. I don't have the money or the know-how to really do much else to the Onster right now. Maybe some rain guards for the windows, but I can't think of anything else.

I have stuff to worry about regardless, though! I was getting into my car at work a couple weeks ago for my lunch break and the wind blew my door open and bashed it into a coworker's car. I did the right thing and alerted the owner and offered to pay for the chipped paint I had caused. The edge of my door (almost invisible if it's closed) got chipped, too. And now no one will park next to me anymore. Oni doesn't have cooties. :-(

If the law is 30% and you have 35% you do not have illegal tint. I think you are confusing yourself a bit. The % does mean the amount of light coming in, not how much is blocked. I wouldn't worry, they seem legal.

Confused is right. Going in I knew exactly what I wanted, but by the time the film had been picked out, my head was spinning. That guy got me really mixed up with light blocked, light coming in, what was legal, what wasn't, what was going to look too light, what was going to be too dark, etc. He tried to talk me into 20% which is practically a limo tint and would get me pulled over for sure, saying that if I went any lighter I would regret it because it wouldn't even look tinted.
He did a decent enough job (there are a couple of marks on my window), but I would not recommend him to anyone; he didn't seem to know what he was doing in terms of percentages and the law.

20% is what is on the back, not that dark. It would have made all of your windows match, that is why he suggested that. Limo is 5%. I have 15% on my front windows and 5% over my back windows. That equals 1% on the back, that is fairly dark. Window tint is very useful in AZ and everyone has it so there isn't a ton of attention drawn to your car even if you have illegal tint. I have seen some of our cops have 15% or less which is illegal.

If he didn't do a good job, have him fix it. Sometimes bubbling will occur and he just needs to heat it up and get them out. If there are marks on your windows he either didn't clean them enough or scratched them up.

I guess my problem is, I'm kind of shy, and I feel uncomfortable advocating for myself, you know? :-(

By the way, I love the fact that you are involved with dog rescue. We need more people like you in the world...I (and cute hounds everywhere) really appreciate your work.

I had my done with 35% because that's what the moron that did mine said the rear was. So it's 20%? I had my civic done with 20% and my state limit is 35%. Never got pulled over for it but it was so hard to back up at night, would always roll down the window. I will post of pics of both cars. The color doesn't match for the Element.

FYI when tinting. If they have a warm grey tint that will match the color of the E's Tint. I noticed after I did mine that it was more of a cool grey (warm grey is more to the brown side and cool is more to the black/grey side.)

I just got mine done 2 weeks ago here in TX because I'm going to school, they put 30% on. They couldn't put 20% on, like the back windows, or lower sense it's ileagal but they did a great job:D

Actually, our state law (Ohio) is 50%. That is the legal limit on the front two windows and you can do whatever you want on the rears.

Sigh. What you have is what I wanted -- yours looks so much better with that slightly darker color. I'm getting more and more annoyed at my tinter guy.
Enjoy it!
