has anyone found a cassette player for their element that meets the following criteria:

1. fits nicely on the gadget shelf
2. takes 12v power from the element without an additional transformer
3. looks cool.

ok, i really don't much care what it looks like i just needed a third item ;)

anyone?

Oh, I hope you can find one...and let me know. That's going to be an issue for me too, as I can't survive without my booktapes. I'll start looking around too.

that uses the 12v power. I bought a Panasonic battery powered Walkman type radio/cassette player at Circuit City and it works great! Batteries are supposed to last 33 hours and extras come in the package.

but I just bought a bunch of old radio shows i.e. The Shadow, The Green Hornet, Fibber McGee and Molly, Dragnet and Gunsmoke on CD's. I love to listen to those old shows when I'm on the road.

My local library has books on CD, but only a handful compared to the hundreds of books on tape. On the plus side, hopefully the CD quality will be better than that of the frequently scratchy, draggy tapes!

Utahrex, are you plugging the Walkman into the E sound system somehow?

Yes, I plug the walkman into the AUX jack, punch the AUX button on the radio and turn on the walkman.........works perfectly. You can get a cable from Target for less than $4 or a better one as seen on ebay. I have a bazillion cassette tapes and I can't afford to transcribe all of them onto CDs.

Thanks, Utah. The info has suddenly become very relevant, as the dealer just called and my SOP is here!! I'm picking it up this afternoon. Yippee!!! :D

If you are looking for books on "tape" check out audible.com. I had a hellatious commute (165 miles each way) for a time and became addicted to audio books.

Audible.com allows you to download audio books to your mp3 player. Works great in the Element through the AUX input.
