a few questions

(1) was this a special order or off-the-shelf (I know the answer, but others will want to know), and where did you get it.

(2) why does the rubber molding come off? and does it go back on?

(3) is there enough clearance to move it into final position with the hood closed, as with the OEM unit, or do you just do all the work with the hood up in the air?

(4) does the deflector hit the plastic panels at all?

(5) Nothing touches the paint, eh? Most excellent.

Here's your answers Ty:
1.Bought it at auto parts store chain. It took 2 days to arrive because they didn't have it in stock

2.The rubber moulding has to come off because the interceptor goes under it. I forgot to take a picture with me putting the rubber moulding back on and you won't need 2 fasteners from the rubber moulding because the interceptor blocks it but doesn't affect it.

3.You do the work with the hood in the air. The interceptor has a notch to tell you where the center is. Just line it up and screw.

4.No the interceptor does not hit any plastic at all. It is moulded perfectly.

5.NOTHING touches the paint. Well, just the underside of the hood if you want to be specific. :D

Does anyone know where to purchase the lund deflector?

Thanks!

I got it at a auto parts store chain kdc300z. The name of the store is "AUTO PARTS STORE." Unfortunatley they don't have a web page by the looks of it. I would try the LUND website for a link to stores.

Hi Keith,

Any noticible wind noise as a result of the install?

By the way - great job! You just gave me all the confidence I needed to do the job myself. I think I'll order one today - as replacing windshields is getting a little tiresome - maybe this is just what the doctor ordered!

Today was the second day driving it and today I drove Boxy through a blizzard. No wind noise though. It's doing it's job very well. Remember I drive 75 miles to work people. Boxy gets a workout.

Wow... 75 miles? Go Boxy!

Keith, what about vibration? Does the thing shake around in the wind stream at all? I've seen a few do that - probably cheap ones - and it doesn't look at that good to me.

No shaking around here. You can just barely see it because of the wa y the hood is shaped. It is very well made like I said. I hardly know it's there.

Hey all:
I purchased the Lund Interceptor from a local "PickUps Plus" and they had to order it from Kansas because they could not find it in California. Received it this morning and the owner of the store and I put it on in five minutes. Fits nicely, no touching of paint, no rubbing on plastic panels, looks awesome, doesn't vibrate on freeway, and I haven't noticed any extra wind noise. It's actually pretty subtle looking. I wasn't sure if I liked the idea of having one but knew it was necassary. Put it on, liked it, works great. 60 bucks and doesn't have those darn brackets that come around the hood like the OEM one. That was keeping me from purchasing one up until this thread about the Lund version. It also came with a booklet full of AVS products...

Glad I could help you out. It was my first one too. I wasn't too keen on it either. You got it cheaper than I did. I live in NY though so everything is marked up. YOu should check out the weatherflectors I installed in another thread you might like those too.

What would I do without ya? I did see that post on the weathertech ones. Same principle as the bug deflector, (touching the paint), the OEM ones look like they stick on so I just figured well, "No way am I sticking those on paint..", then I saw that thread with the weathertechs.. and well, I was happy. That's my next purchase...thanks for that!

That's great! lol. I installed the valley hitch too with the wiring harness yesterday. Boy that was fun. (sarcastically speaking) It was my fault it took so long. I'll have a full report once I finish the wiring harness install and get the locking pin I ordered from Conner & Ryan at sportstrack.com. One of our sponsors.

The model I got are smoke and they also come in clear. They are the same tint as the deflector.
