Ok, so I have a 2005 E with the EX package with a manual transmission. I'm in the process of putting larger tires and a roof rack and other off road type accessories and one thing that occurred to me was that when I use the map lights at night I completely obliterate my night vision. I was wondering if they make red tinted filters for the map light or if anyone has any other ideas for making that light red. preferably I'd like to have the whole map light appear red even during the daytime so the tinted filter seems like the best option. Let me know what you think of, I'm very interested in curing this night vision problem.

Just order red led's I put them in my dome lights and they work great...do search for leds and you will find a bunch of stuff. You can also check out the onlie store. I ordered my lights from that link.

I just switched out my red-filtered interior lights for green filters, a'la most airplane and train interiors. (Can't believe the site wouldn't let me type "c*ckpits") Actually, the color I use is a teal'ish blue/green.

For years, I've cut custom-sized inserts from photographic filters purchased at a local camera store to "gel" all my automotive interior lights. The gels can withstand the high temps and are really easy to swap out.

Here's a couple of interesting articles regarding red vs. green filtered light and night vision: http://www.equipped.org/nitevision.htm -and- http://stlplaces.com/night_vision_red_myth/

Ok I'll try the photographic gel, the other question i have now is how do i get the lens filters out to change the color or even just to replace the light itself?
