Must See Console!!!

This cost about $25 at Wal Mart. I removed the outer shell to reduce the width, trimed the plastic that was on the side (that was used to keep the outer shell straight) so the e-brake would clear and put 4 screws in the bottom. This fits and looks great! The top slides open and has a huge storage area that is secured with a lock, 4 drink holders, storage on top and in the very back. It does not look strange with the shell off at all.

One more pic of how to clear for the e-brake.
Wow! looks great.

-tom :)
Wow, great job! This is almost exactly what I was looking for. I would like to construct some sort of base around this (but still leave room for the e-brake, of course) to finish it off. But from what it looks like, I might not have to do that. Where did you attach the screws? And how sturdy is it?

It looks great with your interior...

#EDIT#

I did just notice that you had it shifted somewhat to the right (when looking at it from the backseats) because of the armrest on the drivers seat. How much does that get in the way? I have armrests on both sides so this might not work for me afterall...
The screws went straight down into the factory console. It is pretty sturdy but I would never let a 250 lb girlfriend sit on it. Then again I wouldn't want a 250 lb g/f!

Be sure to put 6 screws in it -- go inside the closed storage area and put them along the side, 2 front, 2 mid and 2 as close to the back as you can get.

So, any other comments? Like? Dislike? Suggestions?
Oh, and it really doesn't get in the way. You can use the e-brake even though it is close to the console, it's not very difficult to pull it up or release it. If you have 2 arm rest you may have to try and remove that top storage tray that is one piece with the rear drink holders -- I have not really looked at doing that.
can the passenger use it as an armrest? how sturdy is it?
Yeah, the pass can use it as an arm rest. It seems like it may be a little low but I have not sat in the pass seat and tried it. I'll try it and let you know.

GOD bless
Looks nice. Does anybody know of any which simply cover the factory console? I never use the e-brake. I'd love to just cover the whole shebang with something reasonably factory-like.
Yes, the tops slides open and it has a lock which is what you are seeing.

There are tons of consoles that will cover the e-brake and all. I wouldn't recommend covering the e-brake; first of all in Texas it would have to work to pass the annual sfaety inspection, second of all there is nothing like having it JUST CASE the brakes failed (remote chance I know!)

Here's the link to the one I installed (model 500) http://www.saddlebags.com/Default.aspx?tabid=171

Link to tons of consoles, you may have to type in keywork console. http://www.acmejeepparts.com/cgi-bin/sgsh0102.exe

VERY NICE!!

I'd seen that same console at Wally World and wondered if it would work... now I know for sure!

Thanks for the good tip, HEM! :)

Ok, so I see all these great consoles, but I have the storage armrest (and a regular armrest on the passenger side). Has anyone found a lower console or another option for those of us that have the storage armrest? Although I love the storage armrest, I'd love to have cup holders that were easier to reach and more room to store stuff.

I'm wondering if some of the other consoles made by the same company of the one featured in this thread would fit. Any experience?

Is it worth me removing the storage armrest, selling it, and getting something else? I know the decision is up to me, I'm just looking for some different opinions.
First time poster, but I've been a reader since I purchased my "E" last month.

I hope I get this all right.

I was so pleased with HondaElementMan's console install, I rushed right out and tried the "Clutter Catcher" from WalMart myself. As stated a mere $25 for the locking console that perfectly matches my Magnesium's interior.

I, however, took a different approach, choosing to install the unit backwards and leaving the matched gray console sides attached.

I opted to use heavy Velcro to attach the new console to my existing floormount between the front seats. Yes, it covers up the emergency brake, but since I'm tooling around in an automatic, I rarely use my "E" brake. If it becomes an issue, I think I'll regroup and try HondaElementMan's approach.

I'll attempt to attach some installation pics. Views from the rear, the passenger's compartment and from above where you can see the police scanner and other insert installs.

Comments and suggestions are welcomed! Thanks for the inspiration HEM!

Damn, you're right, that console works better turned around. It looks like a near-perfect fit.

I'm still wondering if it'll clear the storage armrest, but if not, I may just switch back to the original armrest.

I think I'm going to go pick one up at WallyWorld and play around with it.

Sweet.

If it works, I'll definintely post pics!
Oh that DOES look sweet turned around! Guess it's off to Walmart I go this afternoon, or this weekend. Better be this afternoon - cocktail thing at my boss's house tonight, wedding of hubby's co-worker tomorrow, daughter's state swim championships Sunday. Busy, busy weekend, so no geocaching this weekend either. Ordered Aires step rails yesterday, luckily won't be here till next week - I'd hate for them to sit over the weekend with no time to install!

Where did you order your Aries from that had them in stock to ship? Everywhere I check says they wont even be received from Aries until 3/22 since everyone is buying them.

Of course, I assumed they were Aries, so when I saw your post, I had to investigate - to answer you and to satisfy my own now tweeked curiosity.

Here's the scoop.

I bought them on ebay, from Truck Accessory Guy.

Looking at the photo, they are round, which told me they were NOT Aries. Reading in the text, it states they are 4" Oval. So I called them - talked to Deb - very nice lady BTW. They are indeed Aries nerf bars, will be shipped from the factory, and she states most customers receive within 7-10 days, sometimes up to 12 days. I ordered the black powder coat, vice the stainless steel. I choose the 'buy it now' option for $259.95, shipping was $53 and change. Just email them with your zip code prior to placing bid, and they will give you a shipping quote - they only charge actual shipping. It worked out to a much better deal than another ebayer selling the same rails for $285 with a flat $50 shipping rate.

Hope that info helps anyone out there looking for the Aries nerf bars

Yea that does help.

I had ordered these same bars 2 weeks ago from suvxcessorry. After 5 days I had heard nothing but knew my cc had been charged. Emailed them and they tell me they are backordered till 3/22 (so then why'd you take my money and not tell me). So I have cancelled my order as I am moving and cant wait that long. I am still waiting for my money to be refunded...its been almost 2 weeks. I am not ordering from them again.

I found another site that is selling them for 206 with only 50 shipping, I think its www.ronusa.com or something like that. So I emailed them first and they to said they were on backorder.

So I am just waiting a bit before I place an order.
Thanks UP&ATOM!!! I have been looking for a center console that would work for me and this one works awesome installed (reversed) as you have shown. I purchased mine from Wal-Mart last night. By the way JamesCzar it works perfectly with the upgraded Honda armrest with storage. I have Murdock's tray liners and wanted to do the same thing with this console. I ended up stopping at Sears Hardware and purchasing the heavy duty mat for the top of a toolbox. They offer different patterns including one that is similar to Murdock's Black Diamond material. Will post pics soon. Thanks again!
HondaElementMan,
I was looking at the original posted pics of your console. I was wondering why you chose to remove the entire outer casing instead of just cutting out the section around the e-brake. If you had left most of the outer casing, wouldn't it have made it more rigid? Also, do you think it would have worked using Velcro or double-stick foam tape to mount it rather than putting screws into the OEM console?
