I just finished installing the following accessories.....
SideSteps
Roof Rack
Exhaust Tip
Storage Armrest
and Floor Mats...

I can't Believe those bastards at the dealer wanted to charge me enormous amounts of money to install these simple accessories.....

IT took me about 3 hours to install all the accessories...
It was simple and easy and I believe anyone who can turn a ratchet can install it....

I think the exhaust tip for the money is the best value..........

It isn't it cut throat?

They charged you the going rate of a mechanic's time and would be warranty the parts they installed for 3yrs or 36,000 miles.
That the reason for the outrageous price!

Locking wheel nuts is a must for all Honda vehicles with alloy wheels, I believed at one time or another if you purchase more than $ 300 worth of accesories at H & A, they'll throw locking nuts in for free.(I may be wrong, but not always)

Just wondering, where is HacI?

haci= hacienda heights 25 miles east of downtown Los Angeles......

I dont' see how the accessories can go wrong and I rather install the money and save the extra money and if something does go bad or wrong with the accessories I'll just buy a new one with the money i saved......

Good for you!! I also installed the floormats and exhast tip, both no-brainers. I'm going to do the fog lights, side steps and bottom grill vent next. Honda has ALWAYS ripped people off in their service departments. Just wait until you go in for a 'scheduled' maintenance check. They want $450 to do a 60k mile checkup on my CRV. About the biggest thing they do is change to 4wd hydraulic fluid and check the valves. I still like Hondas but do wish their salesman and service techs would get off their elitist attitudes. Just my 2cents worth..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you get a 3yr warranty just by buying genuine Honda accessories anyway, regardless of who installed them.

Even if you don't, what service department is going to know that the assessory wasn't installed by a Honda person?

If anything goes wrong with the few assessories I have added to my E I'm just taking to a different dealer than the one I bought the truck at, and will tell them that is was installed when I got the car.

Everytime you bring your in for service by Honda, they will record the event in the data base. Big or small it will be record, my saleman stated clearly to me and my wife. If you buy Honda accesories and get installed by Honda Certified Techs and your basic warranty is still effect is will be covered.

If you purchased genuine Honda parts and installed it yourself, the parts have 45 days warranty, any concerns or complains must be rectify within 45 days. This will be honored by all Honda dealers across North America.

I don't know what the big fuss is about the warranty on the accessories.. I mean what can go wrong???? ANd if it did I saved soooo much money with my accessories that i can probably buy two more sets with the money i saved... This is an example.. At the dealer they wanted to charge me $250 for freakin mud gurads.. I picked it up for $45.... Installed it in 10 minutes...... At that price i can get 5.5 sets of mudguards for the price the dealer wanted......... I ain't worried.. Screw the warranty.. Only warranty i care about is on the car itself... NOt the accessories...

First, never ever trust what any salesman says (how do you know if a salesman is lying . . . his lips are moving). I realy doubt that they bother to keep track of such detail, and if they did I highly doubt that they are very good about it. I'm sure that they would quite often forget to record that a certain assessory was put in by them. Trust me, it would be a lot easier for them to just fix it under the 3 yr warranty than bother with keeping track of everything.

Your salesman was just trying to scare you into having the assessories installed by them!!

If an assessory every breaks, all you need to do is take the car in and say it was installed by another Honda dealer. If they for some reason do have some super database that tracks everything, then just raise a huge stink and say that they forgot to record it being installed!! Problem solved.

BTW - Clown dude is dead on, who cares anyway.

Right on Mr Clwny and Buckaroo...

Honda techs may get more accessory business if they gave some discounts on easy installs. Why charge shop rate of say $50/hr and 'book' time for the job?

[quote:89c216f872="BigKahuna"]Do you have to remove the wheels to install them?[/quote:89c216f872]

It would be much easier to remove the rear tires to install them but its not necessary...... The front ones are pretty simple... Just turn the steering wheel all the way to each side before install and use a small screw scriver.

the rear ones were a lil challenge.. I just used a philps screw driver bit. held it in place with my finger and used a plier or wrench or whatever you call them to turn it. It was a bit harder than using a regular screwdriver but it beats jacking the car up and taking the tires off.

Like i said after i figured out how to do the first one it only took me 10 minutes to install the mud guards.. Ok maybe 15 minutes.. But a very simple install....

Buckaroo99,

I guessed you trusted the salesman enough to buy your E from him?

I don't disagreed with any of you on buying accessories and do self-install, because I do that myself. I trusted my skill more than any of those grease-monkeys that wants to charged me $50-90/hr for putting on mud flaps. I'm stating the facts that for some are not comfortable with DIY,
money is no object or simply just don't give a hoot. I find self satisfaction when I do it myself, it might takes time and a fews mistakes but I get to learn about the E in the process.

Infact, I did not purchased any accessories from the dealer, none of my accessories is intalled by so called "Honda Certified Tech". I made my own floor mats, aluminum antenna, lower grill, purchased WM frog lights and Sam's Club all-season mats. :D

The salesman job is to sale, the more he sale the more he get and if he get more people like you and me.
Let see! How would I put this into a sentence. "THEY'RE SCREWED!" :(

Take care,

Nope, I just ordered all the parts from H-A and built the Element myself, just like a big model car, came with glue and everything.

Actually, I never even talked to a salesman, I bought my E directly from the internet sales manager. I guess you could label him salesman, but he never acted that way, just a straight up deal, no problem, no lies, etc. Still I didn't trust him anyway.
