Hey guys, my element didn't come with the rear seat strap and clip(the one you use to clip it to the side of the car).
I was checking on prices the the cheapist I could find was $82 each. Are there any cheaper options. I know I can just get regular carabiners from the climbing store, but what about the strap?

Welcome, Jduck.

Please fill in your profile so we know more about your vehicle. If the car is new (again, profile), the dealer should replace the strap and buckle for free. If it's out of warranty, try getting the assembly from a junkyard. AFAIK that part is the same on all Elements, and it's not a high-wear item.

Finally, are you sure the carabiner isn't still tucked into its pocket?

There is a little pocket on the side of the seat that the clips slide into when not in use, many have thought they didn't have them till they took a closer look. Double check I think you'll find them. Drew:)

I learn something new about this vehicle every couple of days it seems :) I did not know there was a place to stow the straps when not it use. I did think it was kind of silly that they just hung there though

Didn't know that one...

And here I've been battling carabiners every time I put the seats back down (they want to stay between the seats, resting on the actual seat instead of resting on the floor). I had NO idea that Honda even thought of handy pockets for the carabiners.

Now that's why I am a member of this forum.

For the first time I tried putting my rear seat up and could not find anything to tie it up with, except this belt I had in the back. Now I know just where to look to find the strap/carbiner. Does anyone have a picture of the strap holding the seat up as per manual? That diagram below, Ramblerdan, that's the frame of the seat isn't it, with the strap in the foreground?

Just make sure you push/lower the seat-back all the way, past "level" so it conforms to the side of the E when you put it up in place - then you do not need to remove the headrest, and it will fit perfectly.

I didn't do that. Got up to my E this morning and the battery was dead-dead-dead. Being that the headrest wasn't in place or the seat back wasn't in place, my upper door did not close fully. Therefore lights were on overnight and the battery was a goner.

I took the opportunity to phone up Honda's roadside assistance for the first time and that went well. While I was waiting in the car I looked in the manual and found that same diagram you posted Ramblerdan. (Thanks for a posting it large enough for me to see -not like in the manual). I'll have to raise the seat up again to have a look for that caribeaner. I had my camera with me too because I was going to get a picture of it. It isn't as obvious as it should be, even after studying the diagram.

I'm heading out again so I'll try to raise the seat properly and I'll be sure to take a pic of it.

D Ring and straps to hold seats up

I tried searching the forum and struck out, so I apologize in advance if this is a repost.

After my 2004 LX was totaled by a moving truck who forgot what stop signs mean, I found a 2003 EX. Previous owner has "lost" the straps with the D rings that hold seats when you flip them up.

Does anyone know of an online store that sells them?

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure they're actually "lost"? And not just pushed into the little pocket too far to be easily retrieved?

The parts guide I just checked does not list these straps separately. My fear is that they're sewn into the seat cover and therefore require replacing the entire cover at $200+ each. If you fail in finding the original straps deep in the bowels of the seat cushion, I'd talk to an upholstery shop.

thanks for the reply

I know what you are talking about, but the ones i am am missing are the big metal d rings that were attached to the bottom of the seats that when you lift the seats up you use these d rings to clip onto the hand holder near the ceiling.
I don't think I am describing it well.

Thanks though.
