I had a re-occurring rattle in the front passenger's seat from the month I purchased the car. It has been fixed 7 times. According to technician, this rattle only occurs with passenger's seat all the way back. The rattle is not present when the seat is occupied. Now it is out of warranty and Honda Canada insists I am on my own. Good, but I do not understand their language.

Diagnosis Oct 2009: right rear seat base mount was rubbing against seat base. Correction: R/R (???) front passenger seat base rear mount cover. Trim out rubbing area.

Correction Dec 2009: removed and insulated right side seat base cover on right front seat.

I only understand the December correction, but feel that this is patch work, as not the cause (dangling cable or whatever) was addressed, but only the effect. But what was diagnosed and addressed in October?

Honda claims I should have brought in the car more often during warranty so that they could have fixed it within the 3 year warranty period. I wonder whether 7 times was not enough and why Honda claims to make a business out of their incompetency. Similarly, they sold me an aftermarket 3 m film for the hood and frontal area to protect chipping, with a 4-year warranty. When I want to have it replaced after 2.5 years because of bubbling, they claimed it had scratches and was hence not a warrantable concern.

Have you contacted Honda customer relations about the seat issue? If it was reported while the vehicle was still under warranty and hasn't been fixed to your satisfaction you should still be able to get it repaired.

customer relations

Yep, I called them, but I was told I have to have the car in the shop at the end of warranty for the concerns to be addressed. I received the car on 9 Jan 2007 but the dealership registered it on 2 Jan (which is the dat in Honda's database). Hence no warranty anymore today...but possibly on the last fix, which didn't work.

Simply sad.....I see Honda becoming the next GM in my lifetime just because customer service is non-existent for Honda's (not Acura though). The R/R just meant they removed and re-seated it. You could always find a local hardware store which sells a product called Peel-N-Seal to place around the 4 mounting holes. It is basically cheap dynamat. Find your rattle and apply ;).

fix

Hmm, I wonder whether I simply stuff as many rags in there as possible - until it stops. Obviously, this issue is to sophisticated for a crude mechanic. Actually, that mechanics simply stuffed foam in there. That's patchwork but not a real fix.
