Hi E owners,

Just had my 2007 Element SC came in from Wisconsin. 1 Year old, across the Atlantic Ocean and now here in The Netherlands.

I will start some mods soon, but the first is installing a Pioneer AVIC-D3.

Last few hours I've been reading more than 1.000 posts on installing the AVIC-D4 but I still have no consistent answers on a few questions. Is there someone out there who can answer my questions?

1a. Can the Pioneer AVIC-D3 work with the OEM 7 speaker system?
1b. If so, is there a "easy way" to connect it with by a harnass?
2. Do I need a specific dashmounting panel?
3a. Can I use the OEM steeringcontrols?
3b. If so, do I need a (wiring) interface?
4. Where do I have to connect the VSS?
5. Can I use the OEM plug to attach my Ipod to in the Center Armrest?

If someone is willing to answer these question, you will help the only SC ride in The Netherlands, to find it's way in the tarmac jungle :)

Hay Dirk, take a look at the post 2 down from your'se for the answers to the face plate and wiring harness. I have a D3 in mine, you will need an interface kit to keep the steering wheel controls. I used a PAC brand interface. If you get the ipod cable for the D3, they are cheep, you can put your ipod in the glove box and use the D3 to control it. Ittook me about 2 hrs. to install my D3 and speakers, although part of that was running the extra wiring for my new amp. Let me know if you have any other questions about the install. Drew.

Thanks ...

Hi E-drivers,

Thanks for answering my questions. Most of them are clear now:

1a. Can the Pioneer AVIC-D3 work with the OEM 7 speaker system?
I'm not sure if I can use the OEM amp and speakers, because box-E installed another amp and speakers
1b. If so, is there a "easy way" to connect it with by a harnass?
OK, should go for the harness mentioned in the other thread.
2. Do I need a specific dashmounting panel?
This is in the same thread as the harness
3a. Can I use the OEM steeringcontrols?
The answer is yes ...
3b. If so, do I need a (wiring) interface?
Thanks. I go for the PAC brand interface
4. Where do I have to connect the VSS?
No VSS needed according to rotomoto
5. Can I use the OEM plug to attach my Ipod to in the Center Armrest?
I should use the D3 interface, and not the OEM jack in the armrest

That means, I only need to have a clear answer on my first question I think. Someone out there who has installed the D3 with the OEM amp and speakers?

I am in the works of getting my D3 hooked up to the factory amp/sub/speakers. It involves splicing in RCA-male connectors to the speaker wires/sub wires and connecting them into the Avic's preout female connectors.

Yes, it will work with the OEM amp and speakers. You will have to splice an RCA into the subwoofer harness and run it to the SUB out on the headunit. RED/BLU is positive (center pin), RED/WHT is negative (shield).

You will also need an antenna adapter.

Thanks again ...

... I think I have the clear picture now. I'm gonna install the AVIC-D3 in January.

Happy Hollidays and all the best for 2009!

You're actually gonna need to splice (6) female RCA connectors into the factory wiring, or buy the Metra Acura harness that has the main front/rear L&R RCA's already on there (my suggestion, even though you'll still need to splice in an RCA for the sub).
