I have the screeching upon start up on a cold morning that usually means the serpentine belt is going bad. I've taken a look at the belt, and it's neither glazed or cracked. The noise seems to be coming from the power steering pulley.

Has anybody had a similar situation where the belt is good and the pulley is making the noise?

Is it a DIY job to replace that pulley?

Mileage on my E is 66,500.

Thanks for any help.

The pulley looks like its just pressed on and held on by the bolt but in my experience with other makes and models, replacing the pulley many not fix your problem since the pulley is bolted to the shaft of the pump which would mean the pump bearings are going bad. What I usually do to check if the belt is bad is apply a little bit of silicone grease or dielectric grease to both sides of the belt. If the noise goes away then your belt is the culprit. Now keep in mind, the belt may make noise because it is worn or something left a residue like coolant or dirt so sometimes taking the belt off and giving it a good wash may do the trick. Good luck.
