I have a 2007 Element with a uhaul trailer hitch. I need to tow a trailer about 300 miles. I will have about 1500 pounds of furniture. 400 pounds of which I could fit in the back of the Element.

Is it safe for the Element, with 400 pounds in the back, to tow a uhaul trailer with about 1100 pounds in it?

I think you should be ok. Are you going to be on flat ground, or climbing mountains? Flat ground you should be fine, up mountains, not so much. Im not really sure, but i think the towing specs on the E, may be because it's a 4 cylinder . I put the small, enclosed U-Haul trailer behind my E, with furniture, built a 2x4 rack , and installed it to my factory roof rack , and tied down a bed frame to it, and drove from WesternMaryland to Western NC. The only problem I had was about 3rd less in Gas milage.
