What year is your Element? Fobs are different depending on the year. For my 2010, I used this blank https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SC10R1Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and had it cut and had the key part programmed by a local locksmith for $125. I programmed the fob part myself, there are youtube videos out there showing how to do it. I could have probably done better than $125, but I've used that locksmith before and he's very competent, it was reason enough for me not to look elsewhere.
Many locksmith and hardware stores these days can cut and program keys for under $100 these days. Just call around and ask.
An insider trick to save some money is to buy the valet key blank and have it cut as a master key and programmed. It will do everything the master does but will be grey instead of black.

Where are you located? I’d be happy to help if you’re local.

The Valet key is cheaper to buy and program from the dealer?

Programming is exactly the same but the part cost on the valet blank is usually noticeably cheaper. I’ll check my cost on them when I get a minute to compare.

I have plenty of FOBs but only one key. I misplaced my key the other day for a few hours. Now Im ready to get a spare in case I permanently misplace the only key.
I have a similar issue, I only have ONE key, but ZERO fobs. I bought my daughter’s Element from the insurance company, after her boyfriend borrowed it, without permission, and totaled it. All the keys & fobs got lost (by him). We finished rebuilding it. Now we need keys & fobs
it sounds like the Valet Key it the way to go. i read your posts & responses & hopped on. I know it’s been a few months but any luck?
This one slipped my mind completely and I never priced out the difference. So customer cost on a new master key (black) is $103 plus the programming fee. The valet key (grey) is $49. Just have the valet cut as a master and you’ll have a grey master key for half the price. The programming will cost the same regardless of type.

Fobs are easy to program at home. There should be plenty of good videos on YT to show the programming procedure. I have had good luck with the Dorman knock offs on Amazon. You’ll just need to order fobs that match the control unit under the dash.

Hello EOC's. Obviously I am a new E owner, bought a 2006 EX. I love this site, has helped me figure out several issues which appear typical on these vehicles. But need some help on a few items. I will start with the keys. I only got 1 fob, 1 programmed key that starts the engine (does not lock or unlock any doors, black, but not Honda) and 1, what you guys are calling a "lockout" key, all metal key (no chip for programing), will lock, unlock all doors, will not start the engine. I want a second set of keys. So, to the question(s). What is this black, with chip, key which starts the engine but does not unlock or lock any of the doors? Not a valet key and not the normal master key, to my understanding. Strange. I have ordered another fob on ebay, will program that myself. Ace will do the "black, chip" key cut and programming, $107.00 out the door, (on order). Seems to me, this new "black" programmed key will also not lock or unlock the doors, correct? Sure would be nice to have a "master" key that does it all.

Based on your description, I think that your ignition key cylinder may have been replaced.
I'll assume that the "tooth" pattern of your door key and the ignition key are not the same.
Is the fob a factory alarm remote that can lock/unlock the doors?
I suspect you are correct. Yes, the fob is Honda and locks/unlocks the doors. (Except the rear hatch, but that's another issue).
Just like padlocks, replacement ignition cylinders come with a specific key. That's your black key. I think you already know how immobilizer keys and transponder chips works etc.

IMO, the only way that you can have ONE key to start the car and open all doors is to replace your Ignition cylinder and ALL your door latch hardware with one kit. More likely an expensive dealership visit.
I honestly don't know anyone who's done that but know a handful of people that has a different key for the doors and ignition like you. Cylinders and keys fail over time from wear and tear without warning. Happened to me years back on Thanksgiving day.

My SC came 1 alarm fob + 1 factory key only.
Here's what I did:

The remote fob I got from ebay did NOT work. After some research, I got these -

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XZFFJ8N?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

Apparently, the fob FCC ID (OUCG8D-344H-A) has to match the remote brain module of the car. Last letter "A" are the fobs and "B" is the module below (located under the dash above your left knee, while in the seated position. It has a green plug).

Here's how to program the remote fobs.

NOTE: You have to program the new fobs AND the old one together. Initially I can only get 2 remotes to work but after a few more tries, I got all 3 working.

I didn't get a spare immobilizer key. Tho, research also confirms that Ace hardware offers better price, key-cutting and programming, compared to the dealership. You said you already have one on order.

For about the same price, I installed this key-less, push-button start kit that comes with 3 key tags. So now, I have 3 key/fobs and only use remotes to lock/unlock the car.
Normally for the E, a 2nd push on the button unlocks the rear hatch.

If I was in your case, I would hide a 'lockout" key somewhere outside the car to have access if there's a lost/fail remote fob.

Hope that helps.

Tremendous help. Thank you Gutless.

Update to the spare ignition key saga. The key I ordered from Ace Hardware did not work. The chip in the black key from Ace, supposedly matching the immobilizer would not program. The Ace guy stated it's because my working ignition key they use to "copy" from is not a Honda key. Their program, used to program the chip, cannot do so unless it's a Honda (OEM) key. That's his reasoning anyway. Apparently the ignition in this E was swapped out/replaced some time ago by a locksmith. And that's the reason my black ignition key will start the E but does not lock/unlock the doors. So, either a trip to the dealer and pay their price, although they may have the same problem if the ignition no longer matches the VIN or immobilizer. The Ghost key or a remote start option (Viper) is looking better and better.
For a remote start system, here's a recent thread for a good overview. Judging by the work required I would assume it'll cost upwards of $400 for an installation.

So, what's a remote start install like anyways...

For the Ghost key push-start system, kit cost under $160 shipped. Comes with 3 proximity key tags (2 quarter-size fobs and a card). Additional ones can be had for $5-$10 depending on the type. Installation was easy with and the guide was straightforward.

Give us an update if you decide to visit the dealership.
