Santa Barbara Cachuma Lake Campout & Wine Tour

DATE: June 22 -24th (Fri - Sun)
WHERE: Cachuma Lake Recreation Area
Wine, camping, water and fun what more can one ask for.

I went to this place loved it, so time to return as Steve and myself will be in LA the day before. Several mentioned they may be up to a trip, so making it happen, come join as we chill out here.

There of course will be a trip to Cold Springs Tavern

Here is some of what you can do (previous post(s) by Miss Ellie).

Nobody goes home disappointed.
Part of the reason is the location; a huge beautiful lake situated behind the mountains above Santa Barbara and it's adjoining lakeside campground.

The campground has every comfort amenity imaginable, including a marina w/boat rentals (kayaks & canoes too)
a swimming pool, snack bar, campstore, showers and playing fields that are great for flying kites.
This is a huge campground on a peninsular that juts out on to the lake. The campsites are large and well spread out with lots of shade.

Expect to see birds. Lots of birds as Cachuma Lake is a stop over spot on the migratory Pacific Flyway.

CAMPGROUND:
Cachuma Lake ~ Campsite reservations are not required. First come first serve. With over 400 sites it's never a problem.
Camping Fools like the Barona Shores section of the campground best. (site #281 -295)

WINE TOUR:
There are impressive wineries all over Santa Barbara County.
The closest wineries to our campground are in the Santa Ynez Valley, some have been in movies - we'll be visiting some of them.

More pics. Ric was the master tour guide on this trip. We got a great tour of Bab**** winery while there (Ric had connections - Ali).

Road trip ???

I might be able to tag along on this one. Might even take Friday off. :024: I've marked it on my calendar. Always look forward to Coldspring Tavern. It's a beautiful campground, great for just sitting and watching nature go by. :jump024:

Why do you always plan things in my backyard when I have other commitments? I will have family in from out of state that weekend; we might drive up and do day use at the lake and see the wine country sights so if you see my merlot-colored E, wave!;-)

And don't forget to stop at the new REI in downtown SB if you forget any camping supplies! :-D

Oh, This place:

I will probably be in Olympic National Park during that time period, but I will be thinking of y'all.

In case anybody cares, I have gotten some sponsors onboard for this year's trip.
Some of you might have seen my green soft-sided cooler at earlier EOC campouts.

This is what I got in the mail last week:

I will be giving most of them away via a photo contest on my website, but there might be one left for Humboldt. Just saying...

Fine print: Except for this Yahoo!

Greg

off topic howdy

Hope everyone is well, thought I'd check in with the "camping fools" since it's been awhile. No camping trips for Kristen. Keira and myself. Figure she'll be ready for DV 2013 maybe.
Everytime I see Rick's Kia commercial I think of you guys. Hope he's raking in the residuals.
BTW-our girl came early about 11 days ahead of schedule due to a medical emergency, but both Kristen and Keira are fine.
Hope to see you all in the future.

Whoa! Way to go Josh and Kristen!
Richelle and I are happy to hear of the arrival of "Keira" (seems she was in a hurry to get out huh?)
How thrilling for you guys!

Glad that mom and daughter are AOK and we look forward to seeing all of you guys as soon as you're ready.
How exciting!

Paul and Lacy had their baby "Jack" right around this time last year and are planning to bring him along to Humboldt this August.
Like his dad, I hear that Jack likes to eat -
I hope to try some Gourmet camping grub samples on him (Mom appoved of course) and watch his facial reactions when he tastes things for the first time.)

PS: Can't see the pic you posted of Kiera - can you repost?
Richelle and I want to see her!

We do not mind at all if there is a contest/raffle, that is a great company, very popular also with the BMW motorcycle campers. I love their stuff. Perhaps I may have a good amateur shot submitted on your site. I will have to look into it.

Bummed you will us at the lake but glad the route is taking you to Humboldt!

Hi Mel!

The contest I mentioned will consist of photos taken by me at different locations on my 5 month summer trip. Scenic locations and cool architecture. There will be 7 contests run during my trip where peeps have to guess what and where.

Details will be on the website soon, but each contest will have 3 winners chosen at random from the correct answers. Cash, coolers, and gear.

There will also be another contest where peeps can submit their own pics, but that will come later this year.

Mel, we have not camped together since Cachuma in fall 2010. I look forward to seeing you again.

I will post my itinerary on the Humboldt page next week in case any camping fool wants to meet up. I am heading out next Saturday.

Regards,
Greg

We (Richelle & I) cannot wait until June 22 to go camping at Cachuma Lake.
Therefore, we've decided to do Memorial Day Week End at Cachuma too. (Thursday-Sunday)

Yes of course the campground will be full (always is on summer holiday week ends) but we don't care, it's plenty big.
Not intending to be at the campground very much during the day anyway.
We'll be off wine touring, beach combing, lolly gagging around the lake, BBQing, Cold Springs Tavern, maybe some gambling over at at the Chumash Casino and
visit beautiful Santa Barbara...
where we found a fabulous little steakhouse restaurant a few blocks off State St. "Jills Place"" (via Yelp) and have been wanting to go back ever since.

Yup, we're going camping at Cachuma Lake again.
We love company if anyone else is interested.

One more E

I believe my sister will be tagging along with me on this outing. She has an '03SOP. She made a DV trip with me a couples years ago. We're looking forward to just chilling. Maybe a run to Solvang for some Danish pastries.

I may not be up for a BUNCH of wine tasting, but I have to make my usual stop after I saw this today:

Our recent entries in wine competitions have yielded yet another crop of medals for Daniel Gehrs Wines.

2009 Port--Platinum Medal at San Diego Int'l Wine Competition, Best in World/Class/Variety/Gold at New World Int'l Wine Competition

2009 Zin--Gold Medal at New World Int'l Wine Competition

2010 Cabernet Sauvignon--Silver Medal at San Diego Int'l Wine Competition

2011 Pinot Gris--Gold Medal at New World Int'l Wine Competition and Silver Medals at Dallas Morning News Wine Competition and Finger Lakes Int'l Wine Competition

Please stop by the Tasting Room in Los Olivos to experience these award winning wines. Cheers to all! Also available on line at www.danielgehrswines.com

Scott, I am with you on the wine, that looks like a good place to try some. We can join you. Steve is not much for wine tasting so we are not doing to much of that as well.

Motel E, I remember your sister, that will be great to see her again and like you said to do some chillin out.

Dog-Owned, sounds like a plan for the spot to pick.

What I like about this place is how easy it is to camp. We can take as much room as we want and best of all - all camp in the same spot! We of course need lots of room for Gene's and Rochelle's new palace!
