Does anyone know about how many miles I should have on my E before I change the serpentine belt? Also what do I look for to as far as signs of needing replacement? Recently when driving through deep water my engine has started to make a high pitched chirping noise until I shift it to neutral and then back to drive.

I just want to make sure it is the belt before I go to get it replace.

I have a little over 73,000 miles on my E with the original belt.

Sometimes a worn belt is hard to notice. Some lesser quality belts will show cracks in the ribbing, most of the time the ribs get worn down allowing the belt to slide creating a chirping or squeeling sound. A quick way to confirm the chirp is coming from the belt is to apply some dielectric grease or something similar. If the noise goes away, then you need a new belt but with 73k, it sound like you could use a new one.
