how has no one thought of this before??? i may have to rethink my Gobi rack fund...

where is the website?
Should be here: www.ssdhonda.blogspot.com

I'm just the test mule in this, but quite pleased so far. Only had the finals on for a few days but as I said above I have a 900 mi road trip with the prototypes, malone crossbars, kayak wing mounts, and kayaks on board under my belt and it went flawlessly. Bear in mind that as of yet there are no stock trim plugs or modification templates for this but Ellie owners are an inventive bunch and I'm working on it.

I ordered some ABS sheet to play with today. I know I can make a pretty serviceable set of plugs for the racks from that pretty simply and keep my factory plugs to put on over the studs in the event I pull the rails for the winter.

Update: The 1/8" ABS is going to work for me. I made the templates today and they look pretty good. The only bend required is a simple one as basically the trim plug is 'tent shaped' with the slot for the mount plate at the apex.

Here are some quick pictures of my trim plugs for the SSD rails in the post above. In the pictures on the car, they are just sitting, no tabs or RTV dots yet. I'm pleased. Low cost, not too hard to fabricate, and they leave my stock plugs for if I take the rails off. There is also an alternate front inner design that requires no bending, don't know which I like better yet. I have both CAD and PDF template files for them. This set is not laser cut, just a good wood blade in a sabresaw. Total cost to date $6.90.

OEM Roof Rack
Yakima Megawarrior with Extension

We tried to use the mounts upside down to make it ride lower but the spaces in the basket didn't line up with the roof fixed points. Going to mess with it some more.

Before I got a chance to get the rack on we found that 11'6" SUP boards fit nicely out the back haha.

Marv, thanks for the info. and help in the design! Those look like a good option.

I assume these fit the SC models, too? I have a '07 SC - thanks!
I can't speak to the 2007 SC. The same factory rack fits all years and all trims according to the compatibility checkers I tried so the cross-vehicle spacing and mountpoints have to be the same. If Honda didn't change the front-to-back rack spacing then they would fit. An accurate front to back measurement of the center bolt hole spacing would tell. 700mm off the top of my head but I'd have to check my notes to see for sure. I'm glad I went the ABS route and kept my stock trim-plugs though it's definitely winter here and the bars are still on! Bending and fitting the ABS took a bit of time but it's just cardboard templates and a heat gun and they fit and stay on well. One of these days I'll update the CAD dwgs and get them to Mike:|

Homemade 304 stainless rack

A couple pictures of the rack I built for my E several years back - its 1-1/4" stainless square tube with some pieces of angle for uprights and formed loops on the ends for ratchet straps - works great for short kayaks, queen size mattresses, couches, and probably other things, but I actually haven't used it that much. Super handy when I have though.

2005 Element EX - AWD (first post!)

I recently (late 2016) purchased an Element! The moment was 4 years in the making. Element was well maintained by the previous owner, and was completely stock when I got it.

Attached are some pictures of what I've done so far.

Rola roof rack, Thule bike rack, and Curt Class III hitch.

Next on my list...
Light bar, mounted inside the front grill.
Black powder coat on the rims (I already have the paint, just waiting for the weather to cooperate!)

Let me know what you think!

Hey all,

I'm thinking about buying a roof mounted storage rack for my '06 Ellie. I have the crossbars already (factory done). I'd like to get the biggest one possible and saw this one on Amazon, but have a couple questions:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BCLL8C...TF8&colid=3VVRZ0TPOS2AQ&coliid=I1ZFBNDF92EFKE

1) Will this one fit my Element?
2) Is there a bigger one that will work? I wouldn't mind spending $500 on a high quality, big one if someone can provide a link or two.

I ask becasue, my wife and I decided not to upgrade to a Pilot as the interior storage capacity upgrade isn't worth $25K+ to us.

Thanks in advance!
