Still trying to find my E. Although he is very nice as a carsalesman go, I had a gentleman today tell me side airbags in Elements are non-existent. Um, aren't there at least a few of you owners out there that have side-airbags? If so, should I run far far away from this dealer for not being truthful or at least not-knowing about E's? This is a Honda dealership. :shock:

They are available and difficult to come by, there are some on the board that have them. The salesperson is not well educated on his own product line and unwilling to spend time to sell you the car you want. If there were another dealer with a decent reputation nearby, I might consider checking them out if I were you. Or maybe get a different salesperson that understands that you are educated about the car, know what you want, and won't settle for less.

"Car Dealer" and "Decent Reputation" are a contradiction in terms. Tell the salesaman that you want another $1300 off for him being an idiot!

I don't know if this will help you but there is a 5-speed Green Element with side airbags at Rensselaer Honda. Maybe your dealer will be able to do a trade with these guys. Good Luck!

Mine has them. I bought it June 30th & the sales dude mentioned them, but didn't make a big deal out of it. I'm sure he would have if I'd told him I was looking for all the safety features money could buy.

Maybe it's just the green ones.........

I have them. 5sp 4wd with Side air bags. I guess mine is a bit rare, it's the only one I have seen yet.

When I do inventory searches of Tucson and Phoenix dealers, where I will do my initial shopping when the 2004s are out, I see side-bags listed (when their software supports the field) in about 10-20% of the inventory.

Make the salesman's lack of knowledge work for you.

Tell him that since you think that the side airbags might just exist you'll make him a bet:

If you are right and they do make side airbag models, then he has to sell the car with side airbags to you at invoice - if he is right (which he isn't), then you'll have to buy the non-side airbag version at MSRP.

If he hesitates just remind him that since he is the salesman and works in the field that he must know more than you do about the car and as such he should prevail on the bet.

If he is enough of an idiot to not even know the basics of the cars he is selling, then he is most likely enough of an idiot to take the bet.

I am happy to say that I just received my SOP 4WD EX with side airbags a few days ago. (I love it!!!!) I live in Texas and the closest one I could find was in Oklahoma. My husband flew to Oklahoma Thursday and drove it home. He said my safety was worth a 275 mile drive. I found it by using the Honda dealer directory and checking each dealers online inventory. It took an hour or so, but I did finally find it.
Anyway, since then I have found another SOP and a GG in Texas. If you are any where close let me know and I will give you the dealer info.
