Replace your own exterior mirrors & save $150

So last weekend some inebriated A-hole thought he could stop my car by hanging on my passenger side rear view mirror.

Honda was going to charge me $160 for the mirror and $150 for Labor, Which as you will see, is absolutely ludicrous!

Open the door and pull off the black triangle shaped molding.

Squeeze tabs and pull out plug.

I look pretty damn sexxy/creepy in my new mirror!

Now you just reverse the process. Tighten the nuts (use some red locktite if you prefer), plug in wiring harness, put your molding back on.

It took me all of 10 minutes, and Honda was going to charge $150 for labor?!?!?! What a friggin joke!

So the next time some idiot breaks your mirror, just replace it yourself. If i knew where a junkyard was near me and i wasnt so damn impatient, it would have been a pretty cheap fix.

It's so dang easy to replace stuff on the E, I have started to get a lil' excited when things break, gives me a new opportunity to save money! Replaced my back bumper, replaced a side panel, replaced my mirror, and it is also the easiest vehicle to replace headlight bulbs ever!

Also about the inside plastic cover.

When I had to replace my right mirror because I ripped it off
backing out of my garage.(Stupid me had my head in other places!! )
I mannaged to snap off both of the plastic tabs on the bottem
of the plastic cover. I ended up using velcro to hold it in place
after that.

Thanks to all, especially "Box is Best" (for the pix). I picked up the replacement mirror ($96 + VA tax), and did the install in about 10 minutes.

I saved enough to cover several years of EOC dues.

This site and the posters are gems.

Thanks for posting this DIY fix. I just did it myself and it worked well.

The only thing I would add is that clumsy people like myself should be careful not to drop the bolts as you remove them because they could fall behind the plastic panel that covers the door below. The top bolt has a lot of clearance around it so that's no problem. The bottom two bolts don't have a lot of clearance around them so be sure to use a socket wrentch (5/16" worked for me).

Of course, I dropped one of the bolts but was lucky enough to find the bolt behind the door's plastic (it kept falling down further as I pulled the plastic back more) and grab it with some needle nose pliers. I also broke one of the two tabs on the plug while squeezing it to pull it out, but it snapped right back into the new mirror's housing with no issue.

I need new hands.

Oh, and I got my replacement mirror at Partsgeek.com for $67.90 with shipping. It's not OEM but looks exactly like the original when compared side-by-side and works fine when installed.

Easiest thing I've ever done..

Wow- I just saved $210 replacing my side veiw mirror with the help of you guys!
The pictures were really helpful that are posted.
I bought the replacement mirror on ebay for $40 + shipping. Cheapest I saw anywhere.
Literally ten minutes to replace. Like everyone says- most of the time was spent looking for the right tool to remove the 3 bolts.
Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Passenger Exterior Mirror Replacement Cost

I buy almost everything from DVD, Music, Tools, etc. from Amazon, so when I needed a passenger side mirror for my 2003 Element I shopped around but found that trusty Amazon had the best deal of $60.40 including shipping. The mirror installed just fine and works great.

After losing one of these nuts I found that a good quality metric socket and a piece of duct tape to cover the gap between the door panel and frame works very well. If you goof, rather than tear the door apart, a 5mm flare nut costs about 0.25 USD.

I just did the right side mirror replacement on my 04 Element. I timed myself. I usually take a little longer on these things than some of you. I did the swap in 10 minutes! This even included switching trouble lights so I could see what I was doing (the first one had a burned out bulb). It also included a trip back to the basement to get an 8mm Campagnolo T wrench for the three nuts. This is my second repair in two weeks that the EOC helped me with and saved me a bunch of money and time! It would have taken me longer to drive to the dealer than to fix it myself. That includes the rear bushing swap also! Thanks everyone.

pics for driver's side mirror replacement?

Hello all:
I have to replace my driver's side mirror. I found this thread but the pics that were once posted are not available anymore. Does anyone happen to have pics and/or more specific help with the mirror replacement? I have searched for another thread on the subject but so far no luck.

Thanks a lot.

Might be your browser or your location isn't letting pix in. I just checked and
I see pix on post 21, 28 and 35. The pic in post 35 is probably the best.
The pix on post 21 and 28 are more step by step. But I can see them all.
