Has anyone purchased/installed the skylight cover accessory? If so, can somone please post a picture of this accessory as installed from the inside of the vehicle. I'm curious as to how it secures to the roof... Thanks!
I haven't, but I've read a few people's comments who weren't all that pleased. They've said it looks cheap and is a pain to remove and store in the bag that's provided.
I've have my Element for 6 weeks (3,000 miles) and I've been waiting for my kids to complain about it being too hot or too much glare or whatever, but guess what? They haven't said boo about it, so I don't plan on installing one.
I had the dealer install the sunscreen and it attaches with snaps (8 - 2 on each side). I have had no trouble at all attaching/detaching mine and as I have two children, it provided the necessary additional shading to make a summer trip across the southwest comfortable for them in the back.
The screen also folds up like most "twist" windshield screens and fits conveniently in the provided bag (no problems there either).
That said, it's certainly not as nice as the retractable/sliding screen on most other sunroofs, but I don't think it looks "cheap". If I bought an Element tomorrow, I'd have it installed again.
There is another thread on this subject, and there is a link in the thread to a picture of the screen installed. Just use the search function to find the thread!
Good Luck!
I did not opt for this particular option for two reasons; 1. We hardly ever have backseat passengers and 2. I really an not thrilled with the looks of it, and since I have no real need for it I couldn't justify the purchase!
Yeah, I saw that thread, thanks! I don't really like the look of that thing as installed. I believe someone said 'it looks like a diaper'. That's apt. Too apt for my taste. Maybe I'll just tint.
I use the one of a pair of collapsible screen shades (Hawaiian style) from Target for the moonroof window. It fits almost perfectly (just a little manipulation) and my 9 yo daughter says it works great! It stays very cool in the back and other than not being able to see out (we save that for night time) it's a price saving solution for us.
I have two sets of the collapsible shades - 2 singles for the front, the 3rd to hide my GPS system when I move it to the floor when parked, and the 4th for the moonroof. I also have the fan-style folding sunscreens, but they have been relagated to hiding the porta potti and as a screen when using it.
Love my SOP.
