saw this mod on a 4x4 site using Quick Fist Clamps and homemade brackets on a stock rack.
so I improvised using some old Yakima clamps and drilled out the Quick Fists so the Yakima bolts would go thru. just clamp it all up and you have a cool clamp system for anything pole like: (shovel, paddle, broom, mop, magic staff)

Oh and if you wanted to be a bit more aerodynamic,you could attach your shovel to face the other way.
