I had the opportunity to compare the Element's speedometer with a GPS speedometer last weekend, over a long straight flat road. Set the cruise control for as close to 75 MPG as I could do by eyeball -- actual speed 73.7 MPH. This variance doesn't surprise me. Most cars tend to display a trifle higher than actual speed. My earlier cars also tended to read 1-2% high.

That's good news.

If the speed limit is 65 and i am going 67, i won't get a ticket because the speedometer will actually say 65 :D

If the speedometer says you're going 67, you'll actually be going closer to 65.

My last car was 10% fast.

My speedometer had to read 55 if I wanted to be going 50. I clocked it several times using those radar signs cities sometimes put up.

I just got the Delorme GPS. The speed actually was almost exactly the same when I looked. Hard to really tell but it looked within 1 mile-per-hour on my E. I'll check again.
