My girlfriend has an '03 E. When going over any bump there is an awfull thump on the rear driver side. I expect its a strut or shock but dont know enough to know the difference or even whats really back there in the first place. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

everything i see talks about front strut assemblies. i need to know what is in the rear. is it just gas shock that i can unbolt top and bottom or do i need a spring compressor too?
