I went to close my tailgate today, and only one side would latch. It turns out that the plastic doo-hickey that latches onto the metal doo-hickey is turned to the closed position. Using the hatch release lever does not help the matter. To make it worse, I played with the side that wasn't broken to try to figure out what was wrong, and I got that one stuck in the same position. (Anybody see that coming besides my smug wife?)

Apparently there are three positions: open, closed and beyond closed. The lever has no effect on the last one. Does anyone know how to release these? Prying with a screwdriver does nothing. Do I need to take off the inside panel? And if so, anyone know how to do that? I can't find any clips, screws, etc. Now that I have both stuck, I don't know what to do. My Honda dealer can't fit me in until Thursday...

Help! :?

OK... turns out it's actually very easy to fix. In case anyone ever needs to know, you just need to slide the lever over and hold it, while you flip the little plastic doo-hickey to where it belongs. It won't do it on it's own, you actually have to stick your finger in there and push it up. Now, the real question is how it happened in the first place... :?:

Oh well.....

I've had this problem before on my previous cars. The latch that catches the pin spins around too far. You just have to flip it back into position and all is fine like you said.

Latch Problem: Won't Open!

I went to open my tailgate yesterday, and only one side would disengage. Perhaps the problem is similar to the previous posts, but I cannot access the side of the tailgate--any help very appreciated!

Thanks!
