I had a problem with no heat last year and brought the 2005 Element in for repair. It turns out that the cable attached to the temperature knob came disconnected (I have 4 dogs and the Honda Tech said the cable was covered with dog hair:x).
Well, it seems that it came disconnected again. Any thoughts on how I get at it to reconnect it?

There is no direct mechanical connection between the HVAC controls and the heater assembly. The controls are all electrical, with the various doors and valves operated by servo motors. There is one mechanical push-pull cable ("cable, water valve control," part #79544-S9A-A00, labeled #15 in illustration below) that connects to the temperature motor (79160-S5D-A01, labeled #13 below), so maybe that's what your mechanic was talking about. It's part of the heater unit under the dash.

Whether you should attempt this repair yourself depends on your level of experience. The Honda service manual has explicit instructions for accessing this unit.

Thanks for the quick response. I have no skills, and I am not even capable of keeping my Element clean to prevent this from happening, therefore, I have decided to bring it in to the dealer for repair. I was hoping it was an easy fix.
