I spent an hour trying to remove the covers from my elements steering column to replace the ignition switch, concerned about breaking the 15 year-old plastic.
After I gave up for the day I did a thorough search of the Honda documentation I had for my Element and found only one place where the steps of removing the covers were described in detail - in the 2011 security system installation instructions.
You can see the tabs on the top cover. Press against the corresponding points of the lower cover in the order A,B, C to release.
