My 2003 Element EX starts thumping rather loudly from what seems to be under the front of the car whenever I am not actively engaging the accelerator or brake at any speed over 30 miles or so. The thumping goes away as soon as I push on the accelerator or the brake. Any ideas? My wife is concerned as it is primarily her car and she drives around our two small boys in it. I am taking it in to be looked at but would prefer to be at least a little educated about what it could be before I do.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might have an idea!

Does the car vibrate when you stop? Could be warped rotors as a possibility, happened to my Tahoe before. Also the same type of sound came from my Tahoe when the U-joint went out, was really weird because me and a buddy kept calling the u-joint but mechanics could never find it. Finally one day they agreed and replaced the U-joint and the sound stopped.
