I own a 2005 2 wheel element. I am considering buying a teardrop trailer with a tongue weight of 150 lbs, which is the max for this car. It is too much or can I pack more weight in the back of the trailer to lighten the load? or should I avoid it all together and look for a lighter tongue weight?

From my experience with tongue weights on the E you should be fine. Just remember that the heavier the stuff you pack in the back of the E add to the rear end sag that you will see. If you load the back of the trailer with the heavier things you will decrease the tongue weight. It would be best if you tested it with a scale to be sure you are decreasing the tongue load.

Be safe and welcome to the EOC.

What's the total weight of the trailer, empty and full? The specs are 1500lb total, 150lb (10% of that) for the tongue. That 10% is typical of a properly balanced trailer.

There are lots of threads about whether you can go beyond that.
