That temp sensor is an engine coolant temperature (ECT) so should not be affected by bypassing the ATF cooler with an aftermarket. I think you should be good to go.

I think it will depend on how the A/M cooler is designed. I don’t think they are very picky assuming they can be securely mounted, have good air flow, and have enough room for the lines to be safely routed.

The Honda accessory trans coolers for the Pilot, Passport, and Ridgeline have about an inch or so between them and the radiator. They are mounted in front of the lower edge of the radiator’s cooling fins and are pretty well centered. It should probably be noted that they are in addition to the factory radiator trans cooler.
