I have read many postings both here and on other websites which discuss the best polishes, waxes, etc. to be used on the exterior paint. It seems that 2 product lines receive the most accolades. They are Meguires and Zaino. Has anyone gone to the expense of using both lines of products from these 2 companies. Which is the best? They are both fairly expensive if you go with their entire process with Zaino being a little more expensive, I think. So, for anyone out there with experience, which is the best. Are they worth the money? Is Zaino worth the extra money over Meguires? Are there any products which are better than these 2?

I will be getting my Element in mid-June and I want to have the products on hand to get the best finish protection immediately.

One more question. Does anyone know for sure a product which can be put on the plastic panels to protect them from stains, sun, etc and will not run or wash off when it rains?

HEMan,

I don't know if it's too late to give you my input but I used to use Meguires exclusively after trying most everything else over the years. I had a friend suggest that I try Zaino which I did. Since then, I've never looked back. There is nothing as good as Zaino, IMHO and experience.

I just got my SOP today and am looking forward to giving it it's first Zaino treatment. I even want so far as to ask the dealer to leave the "plastic wrapping" on the Element. I picked it up today and the paint hasn't been touched so I will probably Zaino it this weekend. Should be awesome!

Just an update ... when I got my Element I told the dealer not to touch the paint; no washing, no waxing, no touching. I just finished giving it the Zaino treatment and I have an orange, mirror Element. It looks awesome!

Highly recommended.

You are correct. Since my initial post, I got my E and decided to go with Zaino. I am sold. That stuff is great. Can't believe the shine. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Just ordered some after reading yor posts. Coincidentally I also read the Consumer Reports Review on Car Wax. Zainos was the top rated, the only one that was judged "excellent". Maguirars and Mothers was rated near the bottom.

IMO...I use WAX AS YOU DRY on all surfaces and maintains the E clean and shiny....it doens' affect the coloring of the panels....but come this Fall I will probably clay it, polish it and apply a mayor coat of wax....Maguires' Gold and for the panels Lexol - Vinylex...which I have yet to try...it's been sitting in my work bench for a while...

I was just checking in to make sure everyone here was aware of Zaino.

I used the Z1 and Z2 on my S2000 and it was without a doubt the best 'wax' ever. I have used it on every vehicle I own and the Z5 (I think that is it...the swirl mark remover) did a wonderful job on my del Sol.

So, in order, my favorite waxes are: Zaino, Zaino and Zaino (a close third!)

I can't wait to see how EBP comes up, but I am all out and have to place an order.

I'd say, give Zaino a try and see what you think. You will NEVER go back to Maguires Gold again. I used to swear by that stuff, but one application of Zaino will make you swear at it :D

Here is a great wax test done by the folks at NSXsc.com: http://www.nsxsc.com/nsexcitement/waxtest.html

It sounds like I am plugging Zaino for some personal reason, but I swear I am just a consumer who loves the stuff.

It can be pretty tough to find Zaino or other quality auto waxes & cleaners in retail stores. You can thank large national chains negotiating shelf space with only the large national product brands. I've had to mail order nearly everything I use.

Zaino is a great product, but personally I prefer Klasse.

Griot's Garage (griotsgarage.com) usually has a wide assortment of waxes, cleaners, polishes, etc. They tend to run a bit on the expensive side, but what would you expect when their tag line is "car care for the perfectionist"? I don't remember whether they carry Zaino or not - but you can get Vinylex and pretty much anything else through them.

I purchased lots of polishes, waxes, and glazes (and applicator pads, and special polishing cloth, and, well, everything) over the years back when I used to do concours events with my 911. Traded the car for a wife (not literally, but it kind of felt like it at the time....), then a house, then a daughter, with a son on the way next week, so I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to up-to-the-minute car care. These days, I'm just happy when I get all the cheerios and Happy Meal toys out of the back of the E.

What was my point? Oh, yeah, Griot's garage. Little article on the man himself in AutoWeek, too - May 19 edition. Good stuff.

best wax

I'm about to sign off, but just saw this thread. Without reading the entire thread or anything I'll give my pro 2 cents since I work in the detailing business.
Jetseal is the best paint sealant I've come across. It's a little pricey, but I highly recommend it. Zaino is the best wax for this car since it dries clear and doesn't turn the plastics white if you get it on there, which you will... There's tons of great waxes out there though, those are just my recommendations.

For the person above... for the zaino, you mainly just need the z2 and the accelerator for it also. It's nice to stock up on some z6 (quick detailer) as well. That's really all you need from Zaino. Any of the other stuff can be had for cheaper. The z6 isn't necessary as it's just a quick detailer, and you can find many of those for cheap, but I like this one because of the scent and it's qualities.
The accelerator is very nice to have because it cuts down the drying time dramatically. The big downside to zaino is that the drying time is insane and you have to buy the accelerator separately. There's plenty of other waxes that are great, but as I said, zaino dries clear, so it won't leave white residue everywhere! That, in turn saves a lot of time in your detailing routine (with the exception of drying time, but I use that time to do other stuff)
