get a escort passport.
Or a V1, friend has both. put an 8500 next to a v1 on a few roadtrips and it was a crapshoot which one would go off first or if one or the other would give a false positive. V1 wins me over with the arrows though, awesome feature that gets my vote. that is if you don't mind spending $400.... i personally stopped using them after i got the element b/c i call it driving at the speed of dialup. lol, maximum of 9-10 over the limit with an average of just 5 over and use the cruise control whenever possible has served me well for fuel mileage.

I bought a Valentine one after several cheep detectors just pissed me off..
the Valentine has arrows that tell you where the cop is and tells you how many there are. I mounted it with Velcro on the center hump and have been extremely happy. (no more tickets) I don't speed too much on the freeway. Its the highways and back roads the sheriff likes to hide on that get me. They park in the shade of a tree with there raider on and wait. Pay the 400 bucks and you wont be sorry. wish I had bought one in the first place. Let me know when you get it and I will tell you how I hard wired mine in.

don't pay for the absurd hardwire kits for the V1, it's just phone cord... strip wires and apply voltage.

Looks like you've been doing some homework,as you've named the top three radar detector brands.:) I think I remember reading that the Escort Redline is the new big dog in radar detectors.Personally I have a Beltronics RX65 Professional Series and it's an excellent performing radar detector.I like it a lot.8) When I get a chance I'll have to show you guys my custom/unique radar detector install.

i have done a bit of research on them.
i did see a few videos on youtube with the v1 and 8500, the v1 would go off first, but we are talking maybe a few seconds. but than again that is one more second on your side. We own a passport 8500 wehen it was the only one, now the 9500 came out.. But i am looking for distance, i dont care about the fancy ness,

Go 90 down the freeway. When you see the flashing lights, you were detected.

Oh... You don't want a ticket for speeding? Perhaps driving at or below the speed limit is the best ticket prevention around.

V1

Spend the money and buy the Valentine; I have had them all it is without a doubt the best.
Also, when they have an update, you can send it in and have it updated at a reasonable price-

I have an old Cobra (3 years old) that works really well, but then again the cops here don't use Laser. I paid about 200 for it, it's paid for it's self about 5 time over.

I thought that radar detectors were illegal in all of Canadia? Or is it just Ontario?

Used a few and love my Valintine 1. Its by far the best that I have ever used.
Plus you can send the unit in when they do any upgrades, It could be the last radar detector you buy for a long time.

Ok. So I'm driving down a dark winding 2 lane highway doing 70. The speed limit is 55 and my Valentine starts to beep slowly with the arrow pointing in front of me. It gets louder so I slow down to 55 as I go around a curve. there is a number 2 in the the led so I know there are two cops in front of me. Nope its a radar attached sign telling me how fast I am going. But the Valentine says there are two hits so I stay at 55. As I pass the sign the arrow points to the rear and the beeps go down. but the display now says there is 1 hit behind me and beeps slower. I stay at 55 while the beeps start to go up. and there is a cars headlights catching up to me. The cop (I don't know where he was hiding) passes me and the arrow points to the front. the beeps go down but after a bit the beeps go up and points to the side then to the rear. Now remember its dark and I don't see a thing. after a bit I see the headlights behind me and I know it's a cop. I stay at 55 until he gets tired of me and turns around. I knew everything that was going on because of the Valentine one.
