Question: If one front wheel is off the ground, for whatever reason, will it just spin (assuming no limited-slip front diff) and in doing so will hydraulic pressure go to the rear AWD clutch pack thereby activateing the rear wheels, or do both fronts have to spin before the rear wheels come into play?

You kinda answered your own question :) If the front drive wheel is off the ground, and there is no limited slip in the front, the rear drive wheel will get power. Since the other front wheel does not recieve power it can never slip, so it might as well always be off the ground. However, I don't know if the Element has a front limited slip, or a rear one. If it does then the opposite wheel in front will react first, then power will go to the rear. I'll start up a thread to see is a dealer can let us know if there is LS in the Element.
