Windshield keeps cracking and windnoise

I have a brand new Honda 09 Element, bought in July 09. Within the 1st week driving, I heard wind rattle noise. Dealer fixed side panel. Less then a week later, the windshield cracked out from that area with nothing hitting that windshield that I heard. Safelite tried to replace windhield and fix wind noise 5 times. I told them to leave it. Contacted other company, they fixed it again - strong wind noise - less then 20 miles later (no off-road driving), the windshield cracked with no impact from anything, the crack coming up from the the bottom near windshiled wiper blades this time. Will get it fixed again next week...Honda thinks there is nothing wrong with their car. Stating there are NO reports of 09 models have issues. Problem with that is that Honda dealers do not do windshield work. They contract with outside companies - so of course they have NO records of this.....if next windshield does not hold and wind noise continues, thinking about filing under Lemon Law since car is only "2 months old." Post up if anyone has issues like this please!.

I'm not sure what "wind noise" means, exactly, so without more specifics, that part is hard to comment on. There is a TSB for whistling coming from the windshield for 2009s, so you might print that out and show your dealer ... I am pretty sure I saw a copy in the TSB forum on this site.

I've had 2 cracks in 2 separate Elements (including my 2009), but both times, I eventually discovered a very small impact mark that was likely road debris that started things rolling. One was between the windshield wiper and body, which is a tiny piece of glass to be hit.

Finally, my dealer does repairs in house (though they wont bill the insurance company directly so that creates a bit more paperwork for me). You might try a different dealer ... ?
Sorry you are having problems with your windshield. I have had mine replaced twice, but both times it was a rock impact that turned into a very long crack before I even got it home (so no chance to fix when it was small).

The Safelite guy who replaced it the first time told me that Honda uses a different adhesive in the factory to stick the glass to the frame, the factory adhesive is thinner and not as absorbent (he showed it to me when he took the original glass off). He said that alone would not cause a problem, but he said on older Element models there was a tiny place on the frame where the metal stuck up just a little, but that apparently was enough to cause a stress fracture in the glass on many cars.

Perhaps you should ask to look at/ run your fingers over the frame when they have the glass off next time and have them file down any bumps.

Just a thought.

Good luck!

Thank you for the info. The windnoise in the beginning was from a loose clip. After the windshield was replaced however, it's now a noise that sounds the the window is open (it's not, but kind of like if your side window is slighly rolled down). Get even worse now when MAX AC is on...hopefully they will figure this out this week.
