I have about 5 small pits on my windshield! I have been driving for over 16 years and never came across it before until now. I am waiting for my windshield to crack so i can get a new one but.......i think the new windshield from Honda will be the same quality :?

So will someone make up my mind, should i hope the windshield doesn't crack or should it (_I_) <~~~ crack

From what my dealer said, it's not the windshield glass itself, it's the sealant that they used at the bottom of it.

The sealant doesn't allow the glass to contract/expand as it should, so things like slamming a door (air pressure) or running your A/C on a hot day can cause a little pit to turn into a huge crack.

I have no clue if that's true or not, but it's one of the more logical explanations I've heard so far... :D

Aristo...I think you are talking about the TSB issue.

I think Element was talking about random windshield pitting...I can tell you, S2000s have the same issue...I think Honda is using softer glass than they used to.

[quote:2a1c3c6111="aristoBrat"]Yeah, not sure where I was going with that. :?

I wonder if the folks who had their glass replaced with the Safelite brand have the same problem (with the easy pitting?)[/quote:2a1c3c6111]

Now that is a great question!

Is Safelite a national glass company approved by Honda? If it is, how much? If it is not a national company, should i call Honda corp and ask them for a approved vendor in my area???

I have no clue about windshields.

I too am having intense pitting problems on my 2003 Element EX. Also had same problem on my '87 Honda Prelude. Three windshields on that one! I don't understand what the sealant would have to do with the pitting problem, rather, I suspect that the glass meets the minimum US standards and is not tempered correctly or at least up to quality specs. If this is so, I'm going to need some help convincing Honda that a recall is in order to replace with PPG or better quality windshields. It is a potentially dangerous fault in that it not only wears out wipers faster, but impedes vision when driving into the sun.

Is anybody with me in this quest?

I think the point that my dealer was trying to make is that the sealant was causing the windshield to be more taut than it should (by not allowing it to contract/expand freely). Small things, instead of bouncing off, are chipping/pitting the 'overly stressed' glass.

When you replaced your three Prelude windshields, did you use Genuine Honda glass, or third party? I'm wondering if the stuff Safelite, etc, uses is more tempered then the Honda stuff.

What is Safelite?????????????????????

I would hate to replace my windshield every year

Here in Chicago, insurance companies don't give you free windshield replacements. Hum $500 a POP, is a lot.

Thanks Aristobrat,

Is Safelite the best company to go with?

Is their materials much more superior than the Factory glass?

Asking all these questions because my glass is with-in the beakage numbers. I already have 4 to 5 small pits on the glass and i think it's going to crack in Winter

Thanks

I got the Safelite quote before the dealer agreed to replace my E's windshield under warranty, so I can't vouch for their service or quality.

I've been trying to find out if people who've had their glass replaced with glass from different companies (i.e. Safelite) have had fewer problems with the new glass, but I haven't heard anything from anyone yet. :(

Hi Everyone,

The second day my fiancee and I had our new "E" (9/2/03) we took a small stone missile to our windshield and it caused a terrible pit with a spider-like crack. I was furious and had reservations about making a glass related claim only a couple of months after our red new beetle was vandalized and all it's glass was broken (example pics shown below)

I heard they could fix it locally but that I would only get 70% to 80% visibility back into the affected area. Being that this was only my 2nd day with my new car, I couldn't settle for that, so I purchased a new windshield online from the folks at 89Glass.Com which came out to $375.00 (plus tax). They came out to my apartment and replaced it with Pilkington brand glass. So far so good! I'm loving my new E (Named TANK) and like the character from the Matrix film, from whom I named him after, I can always count on him when I need an "Exit". 8)
