I've got a 2003 Element, 116K miles. Over the last few days, I've suddenly had trouble shifting my car into gear/out of park after starting it... I have no trouble starting it, but when I apply the brake and try to push in the thumb button on the shift to get into gear, the thumb button won't engage. I can push the brake all the way to the floor, and it still won't release. This has happened 12-15 times over the last couple of days, every time I try to shift into gear: sometimes it takes 5-6 tries, sometimes 50-60 over 10 or 15 minutes...

Any ideas what's going on? I'm afraid it's related to my brakes, as, over the past couple of days, I've also found my brakes less responsive, putting my foot all the way to the floor and still stopping short a couple of times. I've just replaced pads and rotors 4 months or so ago, so I know it's not that...

Any and all advice is appreciated. I've got an early morning service call I'd like to avoid if possible... Thanks again!!!

Josh
