Just received my Yakima racks. I have to say I am impressed with their system. I have a Thule system on my Focus and although it is a couple of years old and not really an apples to apples comparison (for the E), I like the Yakima stuff a lot better. Attachments seem to be well thought out and I like the towers moreso than the Thule towers.

And although there is nothing in it for me, I wanted to share a good buying experience with Rack Attack. I bought the stuff from them as they had everything I wanted with free shipping. A couple hours after placing the order my wife found out that NRS had 10% more off. I contacted Rack Attack and although there site said matching wasn't retro active, they matched it minus $10.00. Shipping was quick and they even threw in a free CD visor mount. It might be just a few bucks, but it's the thought that counts.

Are there different towers depending on the vehicle or model of rack?

I believe the towers are pretty much the same. There might be some various styles available for various applications. The differences really come into play on the mounting pad which are specific to the vehicle. The Element takes a No9 pad.

I finally put the bars on this weekend (pads have been on for a while) and took some pics. I post them later today.
