Anyone do heated mirrors?

I remember in my days of riding a skidoo that you could get a flat 12v heat element that you could wrap around the handle bars and slide the grip back on overtop. It was controlled with atoggle switch and kept your hands really warm. Do you think it would be possible to do something like that with your mirrors or would it shatter tha glass on a cold day? (they heat a little hotter than a standard mirror heater)

Been looking for the same thing. I think the concern is finding which socket to wire them into where the power draw wouldn't be to much.

I'd just wire them directly to the battery using a relay and maybe a toggle switch. Have the relay triggered off maybe the front power port so you can't forget to turn it off. Leave the toggle in the on position and whenever you start the vehicle the mirrors will begin to and remain heated until you turn off the igniton.

Or have the relay triggered off the rear defroster circut....usually when your rear window is fogged/icy you'll want the mirrors heated (and vise versa)

I've been looking for someway to install heaters in the factory mirrors too...I've mainly been looking at adapting something from another vehicle or manufacturer since I haven't seen anything aftermarket.

What about Honda Pilot/Ridgeline or Acura RDX/MDX parts?

I found a company that makes what everyone is looking for! Just need to request a quote from them.

Thermal Circuits is the name of the company. That's a direct link to their product(s), usually you need to register to get the info but once you have the link they allow direct access to it without registering. :-D

I emailed the company for pricing and in particular a group price.

Thanks Larry

Thanks Larry - Let us know what you find out. I bet that there is some way to get inside the mirror and adhere one of these onto the back of the mirror. I like the idea above about wiring it into the defrost relay. That would be perfect.

Although heated outside mirrors is the one thing I wish were included as standard equipment on Elements, I do recall an early owner doing this himself, and concluded it was far more complex than even my somewhat competent modding skills were sufficient enough to tackle.

I can't remember if it was done by a member of this site, or the now-dead "other site", but the guy seized upon the "opportunity" a broken side mirror presented by applying an adhesive backed heating element to the back side of his mirror...which worked just as it was intended.

For me, anyway, the "problem" reared it's ugly head when it became apparent the appropriate wire path would involve removal of the interior door panels. The guy did a very nice job, as I recall, but it was certainly far more than a half-day project!

I've since learned to live with my envy, and also get to maintain one "gripe" to begrudge Honda. :p
