We have a Great Dane and had heard that the Element was a dog friendly vehicle. Went by the local dealer in Ft Walton Beach and it looked as though the standard Element was a higher "jump" for our pooch than we had thought it would be.

I had read somewhere that the SC model was lower, but the "salesman" was not very helpful. He walked us out and "helped" us by eyeballing an SC and saying "It looks to be a couple inches lower."

Can anyone give me the real info. I do NOT want to buy a minivan. Please help me, I am a desperate man. :) I never do the off road thing so ground clearance isn't a big deal for us.

I don't know the hieght in inches but My dogs go in and out the side door. My Mastiff lost most of theuse of her rear legs and she could put her front in and all I would have to do is bost the rear in.
This is a great car for dogs

We have an LX, put on the Honda OEM side steps and our two French Bulldogs can get in (side door) fine - so I think a Great Dane would have no issues. For the rear, Petsmart has tailgate ramp for dogs - or just a plastic folding step-stool from Ace Hardware should work fine. Go back to the Dealership with your dog, and see - let the dog help pick out the E.

If I go back, it won't be to that one. They were after selling us a $40K Odyssey.

Here's a picture of our dog with my wife.

We have a crate pad that's 36"x54" we want to throw into the back and go with. The E would have that with both seats up, but it looks like we'd have to work around it with one seat down.

But entry height is a big deal. As our dog ages, he will have problems with it and at 155lb he'd be a load to lift in and out.

No one has any idea of ground to floor level height?

Thanks,

David

I just measured 19" at the side door, 25" at the tailgate on my 2003 DX.

Compared to van, the Element may be a bit higher, but compared to most SUVs it is lower. The RAV4 may be a bit lower since it does not put the spare under the floor. But most SUVs are quite a bit higher, especially at the tailgate.

The Saga of the Great Dane Hauler Search

Well we finally test drove one today. At a used car lot in Niceville. Silver 2007 EX AWD with 11,700 miles. Salesman called it an EX-P but I was thinking that went away for 2007?????? Did it?

Had rear sunroof, cargo area shield, cargo area mat, running boards. Automatic. Brakes were a little spongy, but drove like a Honda.

He wants $19800 for it but for that price I might as well buy a new one and get warranty, lower interest rate and pretty close to the same price. Maybe 18K drive out the door???

Anyway my wife loved it which is a big plus.

Do the rear seats come out as well as flip up? Every bit of room helps. Still wondering about an SC and it being lower, but may be a non issue anyway.

So what about it? EX-P in 2007? 19K for a year old vehicle?

The Honda Cares warranty is transferrable, for a fee and with restrictions. Among them is that the contract can only be transferred from the original owner to a private individual—not a dealer—though the original buyer's Honda dealer.

Terms of other, non-Honda warrantees vary.

As for the seats, etc., consult owner's manual and EOC archives.

We had an 05 Element before, and I wish that I had not traded it on my 07 Wrangler Unlimited. Our Golden Retriever has trouble getting into the Wrangler and into our New Beetle convert (plus, they both have black carpets), so we bought her a used 05 element. Yes....just for her. We only use it when we're taking her with us. I'll bet she's the only dog in town with her very own car. LOL

She has no problem at all getting into the back. The SC is 2 inches lower, but it's seriously ugly....sorry, it IS.

We have 2 "boys" and one of them could jump into my Tacoma and he just as easily jumps into my new E. The other a lab-basset mix (Bassador) has small stumpy limbs and could'nt jump into or out of my Tacoma. He has just recently realized he can jump OUT of the E w/out any problem but he still waits for a "lift" into the E.
