extendable sun visors

Previous years had extendable sun visors, I can't imagine why that would be removed for the 2007 models. That, combined with the new neck-slicing seat-mounted seat belts, is enough for me to avoid a new Element. There are some fine deals on them out there, but I won't be buying an 07.

I suppose one might be able to retrofit the 07 with visors from an earlier model, but in any case, they shouldn't have omitted that feature. It needs to come back in 08.

I also can't imagine why they wouldn't give you a way to open the hatch from inside. Especially with the rear doors unable to open without the front doors open. They're trying to sell this as a camping vehicle, but you have to climb into the front seats to exit the vehicle. This seems like a basic safety issue as well.

Im suspecting that the extentions on the visors being deleted had something to do with the side curtain airbags.

As for getting out of the back seat it really isnt any worse than getting out of any 2 car i have ever owned.

Actually the sun visors do extend out on the '07s. You pull the whole visor out on a rod.
There has been some threads discussing ways to rig the rear hatch to open from the inside. sorry I cant recall which ones they were but if you try the search you might locate them.
Good luck on your decision.

As for your very negative comment on the doors.....

Once you have owned an E you quickly learn the open the front door and allow the person in the rear to exit and then if you are leaving too you too would get out. hard to descibe exactly but everyone that has one understands. Also if they did Make the E so that the rear doors could open independatly you would have to have a stationary pillar that would hinder loading the vehicle.

If you have any QUESTIONS please ask, people here would love to help you in answering them. As for all the complaints with nothing constructive to add.....go to the scion website or something.

What's with the attitude? The whole topic of this "Dear Honda" page of posts is, and I quote, "an area to speak out to Honda about what you'd like to see in future versions of the Element." Forgive me if I have misinterpreted that, but this thread strikes me as a perfectly appropriate place to mention the changes I suggested. These are the ones I wish for. You don't have to own a vehicle to understand what you like and dislike about it. As a potential buyer who has spend a lot of time researching, inspecting and testing this vehicle, I think I have as much right to wish for things as a current owner. Feel free to disagree but that's where I stand and as such I stand by my post. Furthermore, I don't know everything, so I have been asking questions. That's why I joined this forum. I have been searching, reading, and posting questions--and getting great information. However this thread was titled to suggest it's a place to make wishes rather than ask questions, which is why I was making wishes instead of asking questions in that post.

As for the sliding visor, I didn't know they pulled out, even after several discussions about it with various Honda salesmen who failed to point that out (should I be surprised?). So thank you for that tidbit. So you can move it back and forth in the 07 but does it actually cover the whole top of the window like in older models? I live in a very sunny climate and that's a constant battle around here, so I might still wish for the old style which I can get if I buy an older E.

About the doors, you have obviously missed my point. I mentioned wishing for a way to open the HATCH from inside, not the back doors --I understand why the rear doors don't open by themselves. While the door trick may work to let riders out in normal situations, what about in an emergency situation or while camping in the vehicle? A way to open the back hatch and get out the rear would be really nice. I am obviously not alone in that desire or there wouldn't be a bunch of how-to pages for that project. Yes I have seen the posts on how to add your own, so I know I can retro-engineer it, but that doesn't stop me from wishing they'd save me the trouble.

As for the sliding visor, I like it better on the earlier models where the length of the visor actually changes, sure you can move it back and forth in the 07 but it's not as easy to make it cover the whole top of the window as far as I can tell. I live in a very sunny climate and that's a constant battle around here.
I totally agree with you on this. I had an 03 with the visor extensions and they totally worked well when you need to slide the extensions behind the rear view mirror to fill the gap there. the 07 sliding visors are a pain in the a$$ because the curve of the headliner gets in the way.

I agree with you that the newer visors are kind of poorly designed. good thing there's lots of aftermarket choices you can add to them to solve the problem. I have pulldown shades that suction cup to the windows for the side windows and I'm sure there's some kind of clip-on visor you could add to existing visor.
I was talking about the rear hatch in my post and I think it involved drilling a hole in the rear drop door to reach a finger in to the internal mechanism.
As far as attitude goes I have found the EOC to be just like real life...there'll always be someone giving you attitude no matter how diplomatic you try to be. I ignore it when it happens and use the site for what I want to get out of it. Have fun and ...
peace out !

Thank you, I am having fun. This is a very interesting vehicle that I believe has a lot of potential.

Yes, I found a how-to on the hatch release somewhere on this site. It looks like a decent fix, but still I think they'd be smart to incorporate it from the factory.
